2008 oil tank in a 2009 - issues?
I have a 2009 z06 with the oil tank that has the funky add-on that gm did to gain capacity. It has an odd issues that I can't figure out if the oil tank is full. See this thread for more detail.
I'm thinking of swapping out the tank with a 2008 oil tank that I have sitting on my shelf. I would send the tank to LPE to have it expanded and have the Avaiad screen put into it. I haven't really paid attention to the mounting of the two tanks and the 2008 tank is sealed in a box. Does anyone know off-hand if it will it bolt right in or do I need to get different brackets? Different lines? Anything else that I am missing and need to consider?

I've been reading the service manual and looking at diagrams of the dry sump system. I think that the secondary oil pump and lines are worth a closer look. The secondary pump sends oil to the sump tank. the lines enter the tank low on the side if I'm seeing this right and pumps oil into the tank close to the top of the tank to allow outgassing and pressure relief. The line from the pump as it enters the tank may have an internal leak inside the tank. If this is even possible it could, based on the routing diagram allow oil to drain back to the sump through the secondary pump. or the secondary pump itself may need changing to stop the drain back issue. That's the only way I can interpolate how the oil would drain back to the sump. But I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, so I don't know...

Thanks Tom.
My immediate concern is that I don't have a 2008 in front of me to know if the bracketry and all are common from the old style to the new style tank. I'd like to know if the thing will even bolt on before I get it back from LPE, or if I need to buy different mounts.

I see no reason why it would drop right in...GM just added that expansion tank to the side of the main sump tank for '09+. Looks like the same mounting tabs are on '06-08 as the 09+.

It'll fit, but that's a really dumb solution if you ask me.
It's easy enough to break your own apart and see if there are any issues with the existing tank. Make sure the filters are in place, passages unclogged, etc.

Thank you. I don't know how dumb it is. I was planning on doing the Avaiad to the spare tank anyway. I had the tank on the shelf. This gets me the same capacity, the screen, no downtime, and I can sell the '09 tank when it's done. I'll have a net of no cost and no downtime. What's dumb about it?

Thank you. I wasn't sure if there was anything down near the bottom that was different due to the add on tank tube. I couldn't see it while it was on the car. This helps a lot. This is exactly what i was looking for.

I might end up getting ahold of you to put that into the '09 tank when I go to sell it. I'm nto sure how much value it ads when I sell the tank as compared to one without. Have to think about it.
By the way, why doesn't it say where you all are located in your profile?

@MTPZ06 has it right. The only slight caveat is that the 09 and up tank has an air vent on the saddle tank that the older tank does not have. You have to cap that off. Now we know.

swap out the plastic 09 pipe fro the 08 version.Better yet, if you are tracking the car, engine venting becomes an issue. My suggestion is to run a -10 hose from each rocker cover and a -12 from the tank to a breather can. Block off the port on the valley cover and on the intake manifold.

I just capped it at the tee. I don't see a need to spend the money for the '08 version. I am planning on tracking the car. I have a MM can on it. We'll see if that's enough.
