If you want a good tone and no drone - Corsa

Ubnoxiously loud and drone so bad all your interior panels will vibrate loose - B&B

A mix between the 2 but at a $4k price tag - Akrapovic

Hi LPmold, welcome to the forum and congrats on your Z purchase. Post some pics. Since you just got your Z first try pulling the NPP fuse and see if you like the way the stock system sounds with the butterflies open under 3500. If you do then consider getting a mild to wild. This is the cheapest exhaust mod. If you want louder than go with an aftermarket cat back. As far as making more smog legal hp with the exhaust your SOL as CA does not allow long tubes and your 2006 doesn’t have 4 cats on the h-pipe like the later Z’s so changing out the midpipe won’t really net any more HP.

Nice-looking ride, that’s always neat to see when the engine builder signs the valley cover. Getting back to the exhaust, if you do decide to either keep the factory exhaust, go with a ZR1 catback or get an aftermarket exhaust like a B&B fusion or Akrapovic that utilizes the factory NPP system you should check out my thread below, on my 2006, I riggged up a F55 ride control switch to control the exhaust.

Exhaust, especially at low power levels ~ie <800 does very little to nothing for power. You are doing it for looks and sound. Stock exhaust has made 1400+rwhp. No need to touch it unless you want it louder. Far better places to spend money for power if HP is the goal.

I currently have a stock system on my 2008 Z but I performed the muffler mod. It sounds great for what it is. My future plan is kooks or American racing long tubes with ORX pipe and Akrapovic but it will have to wait till I can save the $$$ for that. I know exhaust isn't much of a performance gain but I want the volume of sound to increase. I did have Kooks long tubes and ORX with Corsa touring on my C5 Z and it sounded amazing but was also cammed like a bitch!

X2 for muffler mod. I had a 07Z and did the muffler mod. Highly recommend. Much louder and with M2W switch the quiet stayed the same. I wanted dual mode and Akra is expensive and B&B is heavier, more expensive than muffler mod, and heard mixed reviews on quality, muffler mod was the best way to go and was very happy with results.

Where can I get a link on how to do the muffler mod? Who sells the M2W switch? I want one. You all are very helpful.
I am a mechanical person. I’ve built many types of engines over the years and I own a small machine shop where we build injection molds and tooling. We don’t have engine machining equipment but can machine and weld anything else.

You either pull the fuse or you install the M2W. Pulling the fuse will keep the flaps open all the time. Installing the M2W will allow you to control when it is open (all the time) or when it is closed (all the time).

Here is the location of the fuse if you just want to pull it. It is in the passenger foot well fuse panel under the carpet. Fuse is the one on the bottom right that the finger is pointing to. Just pull it out.

As for M2W, there are a number of versions out there. This one works good and an idiot could install it: https://www.southerncarparts.com/cor...tch-p-231.html

If you don't want a remote for the mild to wild you can get a hardwired option like this one

https://www.mamotorworks.com/corvett...witch-628639-1

Or do the F55 switch mod:

I whole-heartedly disagree.

I have a 2013 C6 Z06 with B & B Bullets, custom without mufflers (only resonators) and it sounds exactly what a Z06 'should' sound like.

And unless you have super-sensitive Bionic Woman hearing, the drone is nearly non existent.

With my windows closed, I can still hear my radio on the lowest level settings.

Perhaps the mufflers make a.difference compared to no mufflers? I don't know. But what I do know is, there is minimal.drone and the exhaust note sounds deep and aggressive.

The way it 'should'.sound.

I have American Racing Headers and Exhaust 2inch pipes. Love them, no drone and sound is excellent.

Corsa sports has my vote. No drone, has a unique sound, almost Ferrari like.

+1 for Corsa. I absolutely love mine - stock w/Corsa Sport was reasonable around town and absolutely screams at WOT. Couldn't make it drone if I tried. Now with B3 Cam/ARH Catless LT's/etc it sounds like a Nascar at full tilt but still tolerable drone in 6th on the highway.
