Default Need advise - engine oil temperature

C6Z Dallas 55* outside in traffic
Oil temp 192* coolant temp 220*
Problem?
Normal?

High temps like this make me nervous. Should I be and if so what is the solution?
New thermostat? Which one?

Thanks All!

That’s perfectly normal actually. If you want to lower coolant temps look into a meziere ewp. A thermostat won’t do much

For that ambient temp, I think that's pretty high actually

in traffic you’re not moving which means engine bay heat isn’t being removed. At that point the outside temp really doesn’t matter all that much.

So are you concerned about oil temp or coolant temp? Thread says oil temp....nothing wrong with 190’s at all, you should see lower 200’s with some good pulls on the street. Talk to some of the guys who road race and ask what oil temps they see....😳

Coolant....different story but 220 is still in the normal operating range. When’s the last time you did a complete flush and change? Are you on 50/50? Additive? Heavier water to coolant ratio? Is your fan working properly? Have the fan speeds and time to come on been changed in your tune? All these questions will need to be addressed for a potential solution if you even need a solution at all...

Actually, From my viewpoint, with the LS7, Low Oil Temps were my concern (Oil Cooler)..................I am now right where you are.... Just a bit lower.......

It depends. The Op doesn't specify which year car. For an older c6z with the air oil cooler mounted ahead of the radiator that's probably a touch high for that ambient temp. For a newer c6z where it uses the engine coolant rather than a radiator mounted oil cooler that temp is entirely normal, especially given the water temp.

In either case it is not too high at all. Certainly not to be worried over.

Thanks everyone... you've confirmed what I was thinking and I might look at replacing the stat but feel better about it. I had a 2006 ZO6 and remember having the same concerns back them and now the "new" one a 2010 caused me to post.

GREAT to be back in the C6Z. After selling my 2006 I missed it every day and found a low mileage cared for 2010... back in the game!

Thanks again

Surprised your oil temp is that good with those ambient temps...unless your car came with the updated ZR1 style oil cooler.

Curious about this too. I still think 192 is too cool...and if that's as high as you get in traffic no less, you need a thermostat IMO. I just bought one of these to sort mine out since my oil temps NEVER go above 165 even when it's 100 degrees outside.

Yeah, my oil temps were never as high as the OP's while I was living in Orange County. I swapped to the ZR1 oil cooler and ZR1 rad...problem solved. The IR T-stat kit looks real nice, but it gets mixed reviews on effectiveness...so I'm interested to hear your results.

Temps look fine, your 2010 has the water/oil cooler. As a reference, stock my 09 with air oil cooler would see those temps in city driving, but seldom get above 160* oil in steady 45-75 MPH driving. On the track 280* oil and 240* water fully stock.

Pretty sure GM didn't do that until the 2011 MY...but maybe possible some late build 2010's got them?? Not that I'm aware of tho...
