Default Mag Ride update by Jim Mero

Got the Mag Ride software updated by Jim Mero yesterday, and it was immediately noticeable. It doesn't make the car ride like a Cadillac, but there's a noticeable improvement in the ride in both Tour & Sport. On smooth streets Tour will probably feel about the same, but on rough roads with dips, bumps, broken pavement, patch jobs, etc, you'll immediately be able to tell a difference as the car will absorb them much better. As to Sport mode, you can now use it. It honestly feels very similar to the new Tour mode on smooth streets, but you can tell the car is controlled better. You can now use Sport mode as your everyday driving mode. Overall the upgrade is very similar to what GM did on the C7 Mag Ride cars with their updated software.

It's not that the stock ZR1 Mag Ride tuning was bad, it's just that Jim's tune makes it even better. I have a 2 lane backroad near my house that I drive constantly (use it as my primary route to avoid a major road that gets backed up). There are a lot of patch jobs (some not very good), rough spots, bumps, etc. With the stock tune and using Tour, you feel every one of them, and I would cringe when I hit some of them. With Jim's tune on Tour, it's almost like driving a perfectly smooth road. Most of the impacts just disappeared, and it let me enjoy driving the road much more. It also made the car more stable as many of these impact occur mid-corner, and it used to upset the car causing me to have to make a steering correction. Now most of these impacts just don't bother the car at all, and no longer need any steering adjustment.

If you've been thinking about doing it, don't wait anymore and get it done. If you haven't looked at it previously, you owe it to yourself to consider it. The GM Mag ride update was the best mod I did to my C7, and I'd say the same thing about Jim's update to my ZR1.

I concur. I had mine done about an hour before you did. The impact of the updated tuning is noticeable right away.

It is truly the best of both worlds... succinctly stated, it provides more comfort and control. Tough mod to beat dollar-for-dollar.

Are you guys loading the new calibration through the OBD port, or installing a recalibrated MRC module?

If you can get with Jim in person, he can do it through the OBDII port. Takes like 5 minutes. Otherwise, you'll have to get the recalibrated MRC module, which he said takes less than 1 hour to install.

Jim came by and did mine this morning. It's misty out, so not conducive to a spirited test drive today. I will say on the five mile trip back to my house, there were certainly less squeaks and rattles! It's a no-brainer mod, especially when the mod creator comes to you!

Awesome. My appointment is at 6:30 today. I'm hopeful things will burn off before then where the roads are dry. I'm coming all the way from Cypress, so there will be plenty of road to test the new calibration on the drive back from Humble.

Oh my gosh Jim, what a difference! Shortly after your MRC upgrade, I traveled 18 miles north to La Grange, Texas. The New Tour setting took out the harshness of any bump or dip and the steering response was noticeably sharper. When I approached the bluff, I switched to the Super Sport setting, which allowed me to carve up the 6 turns of the bluff at a speed I didn’t think possible! I had so much fun, I ran it four times!

So with a smile on my face, I look forward to more spirited driving with my "new" ZR1. Thanks for breathing life into her!

I would take you up on that, if I had a car with mag ride. All I've got is old fashioned DRM Bilstein shocks and LG sway bars

You should have good weather while you're here. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a successful trip.

Jim,

I plan to take my car to the drag strip, front sway bar is removed, everything else is factory, would this update benefit me any or not really as much on the drag strip?

Had mine done 12/24/20. Definitely a noticeable improvement! Touring mode is much more comfortable to drive/ride. Super sport mode is a blast with excellent feel! Had a chance to test it out on the toll road and was definitely a marked improvement!

I hope to have him upgrade my car early next year. I wasn't able to meet him on his current trip, my car is up on jack stands in my garage.

Stored for the winter? You can take the module out and send it to him for calibration.

Hi Denis,

Admittedly, I have never done any drag racing. If more front lift is desired at launch, I would suspect that removing the front bar would help because of the bushings. There is a 2 mm interference between the bar in the bushings. So, removing the bar will eliminate the amount of grip the bushings have it theoretically allowing the car to lift more.

Hopefully, this year, we will have custom drag calibrations. If you are interested, I invite you to visit my website www.jimmero.com and fill out your information so I can contact you when they are complete.

Hope that helps, Jim.

That's fair Jim!

I'll get it filled out and we'll talk when the time comes, thank you again!
