Default Non-Pulley Mods ?

Is there any advantage at all to stepping up to a Lingenfelter Snout on the LS9 if you are not also stepping down to a smaller pulley, or is the stock snout more than capable of handling the stock boost?

Crate LS9 in 2nd Gen F-Body. Plenty of room in engine bay for large diameter Cold Air Intake. Engine has shorty headers (though I understand the factory manifolds on the LS9 are very efficient). Exhaust is 3” with X and no cats. I plan on swapping the isolator, so I will have the SC lifted and snout off. (I plan on swapping in Kong Bricks at that time) So I’m wondering if a less restrictive snout would have any benefit without going to a smaller pulley. Really not chasing every last pony with this particular car and don’t want to run into the toppling domino effect of each mod requiring more mods. If a less restrictive snout with shorty headers and the de-catted 3” exhaust is worth some measurable power using the stock pulley, I’m happy to do it. But if the snout is a complete ‘push’ without dropping the pulley size and spinning the SC harder, I will likely just get the solid isolator, confirm AFR with a dyno tune and leave it at that. This will be a weekender that will never see the track. I just want the damn thing to be as bullet-proof and reliable as possible. If a snout, cold air intake, headers and de-catted 3” will get me to the the 675 range at the crank without spinning the SC harder, I’d be thrilled. PS - trans is a close ratio T-56 (2.66 1st / .82 - .64 5th and 6th) with a 3.73 DSE rear Q-Link.

The snout is the bottle neck when it comes to getting air into the super charger. Is it worth the $. If you are not planning on making big power, no it's not. An LPE snout or Kong snout and a smaller pulley will give you big gains.

yeah swapping in an LPE snout is a great upgrade, but its labor intensive.... the supercharger has to come off the engine...

check out the lpe 710 kit... has everything you need other than the tune... gotta say, one of the best documented installs ive done...

LPE has step by step instructions to get it done though... very easy if you've got the tools and time/patience...

Lingenfelter snout comes with a 2.6" pulley in the LPE 710 kit (stock is 3.1"). I'm not sure you could even run the stock size pulley on the LPE snout as it comes with the LPE 10 bolt pulley hub, and only thing I've seen for that is 2.6" or smaller. Anyway, the LPE snout w/2.6 pulley / 710 kit would be a good fit for you as it's going to make good power while still using the stock injectors (on 93). If you don't want the full LPE kit (if you're doing a different air intake due to packaging in the f-body), you're going to need a 100mm driver's side idler to run the stock belt size: https://www.lingenfelter.com/PDFdown...lt%20Sizes.pdf (which again is part of the LPE 710 kit, or Kong may be able to get you one).

It is still in ‘paint jail’ - but I think the Warden has set a tentative out date for good behavior!

Here are a couple of pics when all mechanicals were complete and the car had about 80-120 test and tune miles. It is covered in a temporary vinyl wrap. It is being painted black with platinum graphics.

Thank you all for the feedback. I have done a ton of research on these LS platform power plants. I am not new to cars, but I am new to the LS platform. It sounds like it would be a real mis-investment of time for me to pay to have the factory snout removed simply for the isolator if I am not going to upgrade the snout and SC pulley at the same time. I agree that it appears a ‘factory’ diameter SC Pulley does not fit on a Lingenfelter snout. The LPE snout has the solid isolator and comes with the 2.6 or 2.3” pulley (2.6 for me, thank you). My thought is to just get this car in my garage and put around a thousand to 1,500 miles on it while the weather is nice, then have the snout / isolator / pulley all swapped next spring with a pair of Kong bricks and get her tuned.

I will post pics once the car arrives. The paint is looking pretty good - full disassembly, doors, trunk, hood and fenders off the car. BC/CC Jet Black with Platinum TA Graphics.
