2010 zr1 making strange sound from exhaust around 2.5k rpm. Video included!
Hey guys!
just wanted to get some insight on a strange noise that started happening to me yesterday while driving. Sound is very very noticable inside while driving and it does the sound 2-2.7k rpms. Will make this sound while driving or when revving it standing still. Also makes it while the valves are open and closed. Might be something loose or heat shield rubbing? Stock exhaust just has removed cats. Let me know what you guys think! Def coming from the rear end.

09-10 had issues with rattle inside the muffler. I just bought a 2010 and mine are bad. It sounds like a heat shield is rattling. This was how I fixed mine.

So you guys think the inside of the muffler has gone bad
I love the stock exhaust and would hate to change it especially the open and close valves. Is there a way to fix that without putting a new muffler ?

if you can find a shop, if you can, they can cut them open and fix the part that comes loose. It’s hard to find someone to that will do it

can’t remember exactly but it’s maybe a baffle inside. I was just talking to my speed shop three days ago about it. I paid 2400 for the billy boat fusion cause i want the npp system. But no one would cut open my stock exhaust. So bye bye 2400

Funny I just ordered bigger tips because I love the npp just want bigger tip look. I guess I'll take it to my shop that will do the tips and have them look at it for me before putting them on. Well that's a bummer. Is the BB fusion closest one toour stock system?

for me, yes it’s the closest thing to stock. Sounds great and you can open and close it. If you can find a shop that will open it up then do that. It will be wayyyyyyyyyyy cheaper.

It is most likely your exhaust baffle. Happened on my 2013 ZR1.

Didn't get pictures of mine, but the "blow out" was similar. Yours may just be cracked or it may have a hole.

I did. I took it to a local welder with information I gathered here. My passenger side baffle was blown out just like the one I referenced in my thread. He repaired and added ribs to the blown out wall and reinforced all the welds and then added ribs and reinforced the joints/welds on driver side to prevent a future blowout there. DM me and I can provide more detail.

I'm sharing some pics here that were from a thread I linked in the discussion about my repair. These are not the pics of my exhaust but I sent them to my welder to help him understand the repair needed.

Concur something in exhaust came loose.
Reach a certain RPM causes loose piece to resonate (vibrate), yours a buzzing.
Not unlike woodwind instruments use a reed, reed resonates resulting in a sound wave.
Valves on instrument alter wave lengths producing notes.
I'm w/ guy suggesting a shop open can, find loose baffle, reweld.
Trouble comes finding a shop willing/able to tackle.
Alternative's a new can.
