Default All Wheel Drive Z

Is weight the main downside to an AWD Z?

How many extra pounds would this add?

How many extra dollars would this add?

Would the pros "outweigh" the cons?

I think, the quality of the Z would get a boost with AWD. I wish GM would just make it happen.

Default Re: All Wheel Drive Z (JabbarFagan)

Cons: Mass, size, packaging, center of gravity, complexity...
Pros: improved traction... ?

A similar topic just got underway in C6 General: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=732632

I think we need to recognize as Corvette enthusiasts that Corvette probably won't adopt AWD, or a mid-engine design, or anything other than a pushrod V8, or anything other than four discrete taillamps... (you get the idea)

...unless it is forced to do so in order to remain competitive.

I don't think anybody can make a case that AWD is required in any arena where Corvette does battle. Indeed, AWD is probably counterproductive to some of Corvette's (especially Z06's) competitive (racing) ventures.

Saying "Corvette sure is awesome, now if only they'd make it AWD" is like saying "Jessica Alba sure is hot, now if only she'd sleep with me." It's not an incremental thing, it's a complete rethinking.
