Default 01 ZO6 a oil burner?

I'm new to this forum, and I've recently read a post about 2001 Zo6s burning oil. I did a search but couldn't find any past posts on this topic. Can someone give me some info about this? Is this True? Was this a recall? Do all 01's burn oil? Is this caused by aftermarket products?
I have a opportunity to purchace a 01 with around 6K on it and the price is right for me, but am I looking for trouble down the road?
Any help would be appreciated

I think you should have probably posted this one in the C5 Z06 section. But I'll answer since I know about this and owned a 01 Z06.

Oh yea they burnt some oil. My 01 Z06 went throught about a quart per 1000 miles. Never had it fixed but I can tell you it's not good for your engine to have blow by. A dirty enternal engine is not a happy engine. I also had a bad bout of detonation. The car was great but had it's challenges. The rear diff o rings also drove me nuts.

The problem was result of faulty rings, which never recalled for some loophole that GM was able to get around. The 02's had different rings that corrected the problem. If you could I would go with the 02's over the 01, not to mention 20 more factory ponies come along with the deal.

Oil consumption issues and 20 less HP than the 02's. I'm almost afraid to purchase the first year C6 Z06.

Same problem on my '01 coupe. It was 500 something off the line for '01s and it burned oil. Also developed some ping on a hot day, which I attribute to the oil issue.

I too would recommend going '02 or after.

Did that really happen ? Your "steAring" column locked up and you crashed? Wow, you had a 2001 Z06 and now you drive a 1994 model. That's gotta suck ???

My 01 burned a quart every 800 miles and GM said it was normal. So I traded it in. Save yourself the misery of dealing with idiots who couldn't organize a 2 car parade. Spend the extra loot, your stomach and hairline will thank you for it.

Some of the cars had new rings installed under warranty, which did fix the problem. If the car you are looking at had that work done, and is otherwise what you want, it may be a good opportunity.
