Default APS Exhaust Question

I was looking though my newly delivered APS kit and it looks to me like the tubes that exit the turbos measure out at 2 1/2".

What's the advantage to having the rest of the system 3" if the exits on the TT kit are only 2 1/2? Does the new APS exhaust come with 3" pieces to replace these?

I can tell you that I have had the APS exhaust installed on my car. What I do know is the rwhp increasede by 42 and the torq increases by 51hp by just adding the exhaust. That is with just bolting on the exhaust.

Thanks for the reply, but it seems very strange that it would neck down, then expand. The "mid" pipe becomes a huge restriction...Why not make it true 3"?

The entire APS exhaust system is true 3 inch diameter, see pic below, hope that helps.

Peter, I am talking about the pieces of the TT kit that exit the exhaust housings. I measured the round opening (this bolts to the stock exhaust) and it measures 2 1/2".

My question was more on those two pieces and not the rest of the exhaust. I'm just wondering how much good a 3" exhaust does if it chokes to 2 1/2 immediately after leaving the turbo.

I see now, you're referring to the pipes that mount directly to the turbine housing, not the APS true dual 3 inch exhaust system. The down pipes are manufactured to mate to the stock exhaust system and to also have adequate clearnce to the chassis, simply put there's not sufficient space to keep the pipes 3 inch all the way to the first connection flange point.

The 3 inch true dual exhaust works awesomely on the twin turbo C6 and rerduces the exhaust back pressure to less than 1 PSI (stock exhaust system has nearly 9 PSI back pressure as the identical boost level) and in reality the exhaust gases are still expanding after leaving the first set of pipes which bolt to the turbochargers. So going to true 3 inch piping with low restriction mufflers as soon as soon possible is very worthwhile for all twin turbo applications.
