Default catch can ........

i know the debate is forever on going between catch can and oil cap breathers but i thought i would post my findings after several months with catch can and between 3k and 5k miles, when i ported my intake i was amazed at the oil residue on the inside of it. that when i started looking around and bought a catch can. ne way today i pulled it off the car and WOW!!!!!! i couldn't believe the nasty stuff inside.... i poured it out on a white plastic plate and took a pic so i could post it. it is being approved and i will add it shortly. i not sure where this nasty stuff is going when you use a oil cap breather but i for one am not trying to send this into my engine........ anyone that would like to i will save mine for you... it about 6 oz of nastiness in this amount of time!!!

That's a mixture of oil vapors and condensation in the engine, that's why we provide both a breather and a catch can with our SC kits.

i been contemplating using both.....i guess i don't see why the oil cap breather is doing anything and it alone would not stop the vapors from going backe in the intake....and that in my case of course is the s/c head unit....not goood

The main reason why we provide the breather is because if the car is over boosted or getting tired, it could raise crank case pressures enough to push the dip stick out and make one heck of a mess.

Mike Norris makes a nice one. You can get one form him or Next Level Performance.

Gene,

Are the hose connection points the same for the Maggie vs. a stock intake? The instructions that came with the kit just say to find a "sutable location" for s/c installations. For those of use with Maggie's, is it not possible to mount the can on the front side of the passenger side cylinder head due to the p/s pump re-loaction?

Here's a pic of your awesome engine compartment....

black, with a breather that stuff that you had in the catch can get vented out to the atmosphere, of course it is for off road use only. just curious, have you check your intake after having catch can for 3-5k miles? i was still finding some oil vaper in there, just not as much as before the catch can. would be interest if anyone has double check the intake again after having catch can for a while, thanks

black, your intake is nice and clean after 3-5k miles? i am sure it is oil pool free, but what about any oil film in there or slightly greasey? any ways, you can't use a breather wth your catch can set up without pulling in unmeter outside air into the engine. you many want to run only one, unless you set it up where there is only the line that goes to the catch can but there is no line back to the intake. but doing it this way, pretty much make catch can useless now.
