Default A6 Automatic Transmission Durability

OK, anyone in here have a 2008 A6 C6 and Blown up the tranny? If so How much HP were you running to the wheels and for how long?

If you have a high HP car and havent blown up the tranny how much HP do you have and how long have you been running it.

Thanks just trying to get a guage from previous experience.

Not sure how long it will last but i can tell you after adding a blower all this car does is bang off the rev limiter. Not fun and very anoying. Cars days are numbered. Was told when it senses spin even if the rev limiter is raised it will do it. IM NOT HAPPY !

We have wiped out a couple the 550-600rwhp range.

You need to have the rev limiter raised by 200 rpms and the shift mph lowered 2-3 mph......this gives the transmission more time to complete the shift. I had the same problem, this solved it.

I know of 3 A6s that have come apart at 550-600 rwhp.

All were tuned properly and came apart within 6 months. I know of 2 around the 700 rwhp level that are still running fine after 6-12 months but they are both centrifugal cars. I think a centrifugal supercharger (without all of the low end torque) places less strain on the trans then a roots blower or twin turbo.
550 rwhp and above is a gamble IMHO............

We leave them at 600rwhp and so far so good, along with some nice track times.

if you are in paddle mode does the auto trans downshift on its own when you are cruising in 3rd or 4th and hit the gas?

No, paddles you controll the shifts yourself. If you mash the pedal in third with the paddles on, it will stay in third untill you hit the upshift button.

My local tuner has had 3-4 A6's come apart (as of about 9mos ago)....believe all of them were at 600rwhp or less- hence the reason I bought an A4

its coming

once the shift pressure problem is dealt with, all the current trans builders will be able to pile against the 6L80 like there's no tomorrow; look for built transmissions to support well in excess of what the built 4L85's can handle

and besides, a 6L80 shares more than half of its components with a 6L90, which is rated for 664 ft lbs (compared against the 4L80E's 440; 4L85 is 460)

which is why no trans company as of yet has released a built 6L80 or any 6L or 6T series trans yet

also have you considered an upgraded torque tube shaft?

the OE aluminum one does hold up well to increased power either

try for a carbon one or a HD ALU setup; no one as of yet makes a carbon shaft for the A6 (and i've been looking around for a LONG time - if you know someone please let me know IMMEDIATELY), and the HD aluminum shaft requires some welding

not pleasant either way
