Hey gang, I've got an M6 LS2 with Kooks long tubes.
I'll soon be getting A&A's new Vortech V3 kit. Question is, how much boost would be needed to get an LS2 stock long block with headers to around 600ish rwhp??? What sized pulley would be needed???
Any input or similar setup examples are really appreciated! Thanks!
It's the new Vortech V3 self-contained head unit. Similar to the prochargers, the unit has a self contained oil system. It also has the helical gearing for quiet operation.
Hrmm.. I know the V-2 SQ SC-Trim is self contained. Based on it, I think the kit comes with a 3.8" pully that is suppose to get you to about 6.5psi. For 600rwhp, I would think you would need closer to 8-9 psi.
That coupled with the Kooks, which generally loose you a pound of boost compared to the stock manifolds, and I would guess you'd need to drop at least one pully size, if not two. You'd also probably want to add alky to keep her on the safe side.
But again, I would give Andy a call and ask him what he thinks. He'll be able to tell you pretty quick what to expect, and what you need to reach your goals.
Mr BIG, how much power do you think 9lbs of boost would make on a exhaust only car?
You're a Texas Boy... So you know the Tx heat is a killer... It all depends on the tune... You should STRONGLY consider a Methanol injection system... Most of us use Julio's kit... www.alkycontrol.com. I run his dual nozzle kit... We Texas power junkies have to be careful with the heat and raised IAT's... With just a small blower cam, fast intake, and headers my car made 620rwhp 518rwtq at ONLY 5.5psi back in 2005. It's ALL about the TUNE!!! I would not even consider trying to make above 550rwhp in this heat without Meth Injection, with a safe tune you probably won't until winter, soooo much timing will have to be pulled to keep a safe AFR...
Keep us posted... and Call ECS and order one of the ALKY kits they have a GP sale going on right NOW see the post by Wicked Weasel!!!
For 5.5lbs that sounds like a lot of power! All in the tune?
Okay, assuming I use the stock 3.8 pulley that comes with the kit (Andy claims it makes around 7lbs boost), guessing, what type of power would that yield me???
Also, many claim that the LS2 past 550 rwhp is on a hope and a prayer, however, Jason at MTI, explained to me that he believes that he could tune my car with 600+rwhp very conservatively? And he's been in the buisness a while, so I want to believe him. It's like a tug of war match in my head...heehee...

Well, the blower cam and fast probably helped a bit too.
You could hit ~550 with 7psi and headers on an LS2.
Getting 600 out of an LS2 is actually pretty easy. A lot of people are running 600+ on stock bottoms with no issues. ECS has a few 700rwhp stock bottom cars out there holding up.
Trust your tuner... A conservative 600 is certainly possible, especially if you use a cam to help get you there (and dont forget that meth... sounds like you texas boys need it!).

Once again without Methanol to even out the IAT's, you could swing 50rwhp either way depending on the weather conditions the day of your tune... Any guess would be just that... And probably not very accurate unless luck was involved... Texas Heat is the F.I. Horse Power killer...
My car was at 620rwhp the very first F.I. go round... that was 30,000miles ago.
I'm currently at 713rwhp and 645rwtq with S/C and Methanol only...
NO N2O (which is good for an extra120rwhp) That's with a baby P1SC and only 9psi... Ask Jayson about Daniel's aka "Big Bollas" car... it's all in the tune...
I just bought an eight rib set up from ECS, so now we can try for 12psi with out slip... Stay tuned...(no pun intended)
So you're saying that on 7lbs I could make around 550 to the wheels, and by adding meth, I could increase that by 50rwhp?
Or, I could simply add an extra pound or two of boost, and a good tune and get there??? I truly believe the Texas heat, but I don't drive my car much at all during the day. Mostly on my days off of work and in the evening time or night......
Oh, and I will call Jayson for sure next week and see what he thinks.....

I agree, you need meth for sure, dont push it without (and I would go with the dual nozzle to start off with). I'm at around 675 on the stock bottom end, no problems yet. Have fun!
That's the thing I hate about this boost or nitrous deal with none forged bottem end factory motors, everyone has a different opinion on how much power they could take.
I've heard anywhere from 525, 550, 600rwhp on pump gas, and then with meth I've heard all the way up to 730ish??????
That's a huge difference, meth or not, between 525 to 700+ to the wheels............
