Guys I've got an LS3 automatic for the day. I'm throwing a 100shot dry kit on it and racing a GTR at the drag strip.
I've never used nitrous before nor put an automatic vette down the strip.
What do you suggest the best way to do things to be?
When do I spray it?
Do I leave it in drive?
Someone mentioned I put it into 1, then 2 (spray) then D holding spray.
Please let me know what to do as I need to wreck this GTR and I don't want to wreck this LS3.
I'm guessing you're on stock tires? If so, after the 1-2 shift get on the button (and NEVER SPRAY before 3,200 RPM!!!!). MAKE SURE TC IS OFF!
If you don't hot lap it, then the tranny will probably last a few races. Oh, and you should give that Viper a very good run! Let us know how it turns out!

I ran n20 for 2 years with the 6l80e with a window switch set at ~6400 to keep the tran alive never had a problem, I would stall the car to 1650 let her roll out a bit and flip the switch, the more n20 and the sooner the better she hooked the harder hit would plant the tires.
3000 rpms is not a magic number read and talk to n20 guys that have done it with an auto... IMO with a small shot and Auto as long as you are at WOT you can spray at 1800... my friend sprays his with a 150 at 1,100 rpms I would not do this but it works 1.55's and he picks up 2 seconds in the ET lol
You will be faster with 50-75 spraying in 1st right out of the gate then waiting for 2nd with a 100 shot.
Read my old postsfo more info
Make sure she is in S auto or D in COMP mode every pass
If you are not running a DR you need a progressive controller

I agree, I always sprayed mine once the hammer was down and not throught the shifts. sold the car (C5 coupe) at 50k miles and orginal tranny was fine, but never hit it with over a 150 or so.

A GTR is not a viper but a nissan, which goes about 11.48@ 124mph.
Nitrous could be used on any vette, a LS3 has better flowing heads and the bottom is stronger than the LS1 & LS2. From my experience nitrous kits came with a few safety, but if someone with experience is installing it that will be great. My advice is put a rev. limiter switch, thats a major safety so the car can't cross the max rmp with n2o activated, it also can be set to activate at a certain rmp (ex activate@ 3200rpm and shuts of @ 6500rmp) another safety is to have a wide open throttle switch, and most important is to have a fuel pressure switch (if fuel pressure gets low n20 shuts of) A fuel pressure gage, a nitrous pressure gage and always have a bottle heater set on a seperate relay switch and most of all a purge switch.
After all those safety is right its all up to you how much you will like 150 to 200 shot. Strap yourself and get ready for a ride of your life.
I will tell you I took a stock LS1 motor 1997 C5 vette to 10.60 with 2 stages of spray one stage 150 and second 125. The second came on after I hit second gear and my car ran for 2 yrs without any issues.
Had my 150 shot LS3 set up with window switch and an Edelbrock progressive system that hits at 20% instead of the full 150. Comes on at 3500 and red line is a blur. Tranny tune on the A6 works wonders and have a shift light installed since you will be busy hanging on to the steering wheel instead of watching the tach unless you leave it in D or S. 544RWHP and 565 torque on a very short dyno run. 1/8th mile local track in a few weeks.
Come on man! Spill the beans! Did you beat the GTR?
(Guys, thanks for the clarification. I know what the difference is having owned both - I simply read "GTS" instead of "GTR"). Oh, and Trinic, I defy you to show me a stock GTR that can trap 128 MPH! LOL

Thank you for the call and helping me out! I ended up mounting it in front of the passenger seat. As for the results you'll have to wait for the episode. All I'm saying is it was a very interesting race.
