I am thinking of narrowing a set of 17" wheels to 4-5" and using motorcycle tires on the front.
GTO spares are 17x4". DONT run motorcycle tires, I thought the same, BUT they are rounded on teh edge and will handle terrible imo...

If you want radials, get the MH Racemaster 185x55x17s... They are 26" tall and speed rated to 250 mph according to John at MH. Should have you covered for the speed rating.

This is the BIAS PLY tire the OP has... you can run these with radials in the back but its not recommended...

This is the RADIAL version of the same tire above, which is what I am currently using... Its about 5 lbs a piece heavier than the Bias Ply but more stable... The radial is not recommended AT ALL if you run a Bias ply in the back... basically run the same type tire front and back and it will be better... mis matching makes the suspension fight and the car walks around a LOT.

The liugs are fine. On a NON Z51 or a ZO6, these will not fit without a adapter. But, you will have to make the hole in the center of the wheel a little bigger.

almost... on a Z51 or Z06, spacers (or adapters) are needed to clear the calipers... on a base car such as mine, they fit without any spacers...

I'm guessing the spacers were more expensive than the wheels. What do you have in rims and spacers collectively? I'm weighing my options on trimming some weight this way vs. having a set of factory Z06 wheels narrowed.

thanks,
jeff

I would narrow the Z06 wheels.Jusy my .02 but I think the GTO spares look like sh*t and even worse with rear rims painted black. On a Mustang sure.On a Vette no way.

Maybe you should keep your .02 cents to yourself...

Great thread. I've got the gto spares, GS widebody kit and am going to go with Z06 brakes. I don't want to swap brakes back and forth.

Where did you get the spacers and how much were they?

Is this Roger from HP sales Pompano? Did you ever get spacers to work, and did Roger make them?

I didn't think that wheel adapter's of any type passed tech at the strip ?
They allow small wheel spacers to a degree but that's it.

I'm checking into having a set of 18x9.5's narrowed down to 4", and what the cost will be.

3.5". My friend Tkr has them...wow they are some big adapters, but he has no trouble with them.

Here's a thread with a link to ordering info.

Also, I didn't know this but per this thread apparently the CTS 18" spare fits z51 and z06 without spacers.
