ok so i am sure this has been asked like a 100 times but since i really had not considered any performance modifications till now i would like some constructive advice from thoes who have been down this road once already.
i live in colorado. i never thought i would say that but i really want a little more power out of my z
i was really leaning towards the new edlebrock SC thats supposed to be out in a couple months because i have had experience with one similar to that once in the past.
i like the idea of having more low end torque, however im a little worried about heat soak.
there is a local tuner here that has done several base model vettes with AA corvettes super charger which is a centrifigual design.
he tells me that with the intercooler heat soak is a non issue. the other bennifit is that as for traction the boost doesnt come on all at once but builds so its a little easier to hook up the power for that reason.
he claims that with 6 psi 660 hp to the wheels is quite possible on pump gas.
im not looking for the max out of my car, i dont race it (very often) but the basic issue is at 6500 feet ASL i get robbed about 100 ponies up here. i would be happy to get that back and maybe if a little more was there that would be a bonus.
i am a little concerned that i wont have the low end grunt that i want. as silly as this sounds if i could light the tires up a little from a roll it would make a grin on my face!
he tells me there is some additional low end torque with the AA kit and from a price point is a the most cost efficient solution.
can anyone add their personal thoughts?
i appreciate any feedback. good or bad just keep in mind im not looking to blow the bank and not looking to get into a HP war for the most power.
my biggest needs and wants are low end power, reliable, and cost
I think you answered your own question. Your biggest need is low end, then go with the positive displacement blower. I am at 5200' also and know your pain. I went H/C/I and got to 475rwhp actual at my elevation, but wanted more. I am in the process of having my car completed with a forged build, blower cam and YSI A&A kit. I also had a Shelby GT500 with a Whipple making instant power. The traction sucked so bad, that my Z was way more fun. The Z would dead hook with the H/C/I making 475rwhp actual.
SpinMonster has a thread going that may have more answers than you need. but the jist is that at altitude you need more compression and more boost to make the same power that you would make at sea level.
Listen,,if You needs are "low end power and reliability",,,,there's no better than dropping a Magnacharger TVS unit in Your Vette!!
I have the smaller 112 unit and it has given Me ZERO problems over the last 4.5 years!!
You'll love it
Have you gone to RMCR and taken a ride in one of the cars they have there?
actually i did yesterday, went for a ride in a C6 with automatic and one of your kits. i think it was around 500 somthing to the wheel. the only bad thing was it is a totally different car them mine and a slushbox to boot. we did make a lot of tire smoke through all of 1st and pretty much all of 2nd gear. i have no doubt the car makes major HP on the top end, but it was hard to see the power as a passenger and a totally different car then mine.
they are about 3 miles from my house. very nice guys and they seem to know what they are doing.
