Okay I know this is the C6 forum, but I have some questions about the stock ZR1/LS9 components.
I am putting together parts for my C5 FRC build and have a few questions about the stock ZR1/LS9 components.
I am strange in this build, as I would like to use as many stock components as I can, so my question is below:
Will the stock LS9 valvetrain be suitable as a replacement in my LS1 which I will be running 5-7 lbs of turbo boost through?
I am going to purchase a stock LS9 cam and front cover to replace my current cam.
I have NO intention of taking the motor apart beside the cam and valvesprings, and an oil pump while it is apart. The motor is very stout 45k miles, and I just want to bring myself up to C6 Z06 power levels in my car.
I will probably only put 4-5k miles on the car a year. I WANT OE reliability, as I already have some aftermarket parts (cam and valvesprings) that i am selling for this reason.
No expert here but at those boost levels can't see why you can't us any stock parts you want to. You'd probably have more issues with the wrong cam installed then 7lbs of boost imo.... I'm running all stock parts with E-Force and it runs great. Only putting about 5k miles a year so unless something decides to let go (could happen) I expect decent motor life.... Probably cook a clutch or rears before anything in the engine lets go... on the other hand you NEVER know either!!

There is nothing wrong with aftermarket valvetrain components. Many OEM pieces are actually made by some of the same companies that make aftermarket pieces anyway. I would recommend a set of Patriot Gold valve springs (or Comp Cams 918 springs). Depending on how aggressive your cam is, you may want to use aftermarket lifters too. A good double row timing chain with a dampener is a must as well. I had over 30,000 miles on my 03 Z06 with a Lunati cam and matching valvetrain components with no issues at all.
Beware that the LS9/LS3 intake rocker arms won't work with your LS1 build unless you use LS9/3/L92 heads. The intake rockers are an offset design to accommodate the fatter intake ports of the newer style heads.
