I have been toying with the idea of building a C5R block for my FI C6Z. What hurdles do I face in this project? Has anyone else on the forum done it yet? I have heard that this is the closest thing to a bullet proof block you can get. Any thought? Suggestions?

C5R blocks were great 10 years ago, but with the other blocks that are available today, they are pretty antiquated. The RHS block is a much better piece.

Unless you're looking for a ***** out drag car I'd probably do an LS3 with a turbo or blower.
What sort of power are you looking for and how do you plan on using it (road race, drag race, etc)?
I wouldn't exactly consider an LS3 that much better for boost over an LS7. My LS7 is making 677rwhp and it is running just fine.....for now. But I always have it in the back of my mind that it could all go wrong at any time. I would actually like a car that I can drive at any time that makes 1000 or so rwhp on a motor that is actually built to handle it. I realize many other parts on the car will need to be upgraded also but right now im just thinking of the motor.

When you find out, let me know, I have the same aim.
Also it's my [limited] understanding that the ls3 is a lot meatier around the bores making it better (plus the stock CR).

Yes the LS3 has thicker side walls but still really isn't built for major amounts of boost. It is a bit better than the LS7 but still not going to handle 1000hp for any extended periods of time. The reason I had mentioned the C5R block was because I have heard from many that you could boost it until the cows come home. Now with this thread i'm thinking maybe the RHS block may be my best option. For now (knock on wood) my LS7 is running like a clock with 800 at the crank. When I am ready for my new built I am going to boost this LS7 as far as it will go. Just to see for myself. I would also like to drop in some dished pistons to my LS7 and see how far it will go. I hear that the pistons are always the first to go and that the block actually hold up much better than what people give it credit for.
There are tons and tons of LS1 and LS6 cars running around for years at that power level.
That's always the case & is true for everyone, regardless of how expensive their motor. There is a reason many racers have spare motors ready to go.
Does your LS7 have a built lower end? I could see upgrading the pistons, rods, bolts, etc, but the block itself isn't in danger at under 700hp.
100% stock block at 677rw. I will be adding a Fast 102mm intake, throttle body and blower cam shortly which should get me to around 725ish rwhp? Give or take a few ponies. I am thinking if I do the pistons, rods etc.. at that time it should be good for a while but eventually I will want more. Its in our nature, we can never be satisfied with what we have.

The C5R was great for NA and moderate boost. With higher boost the deck will crack between the cylinder bores.
