I have a 2006 ZO6 with 110,000 miles on it. It's bone stock and the car is in excellent shape and I keep it well maintained. I bought an ECS Paxton kit pullied for 6~6.5 psi. It comes with a small pulley (3.31) and a restrictor plate but my tuner seems to think I should go with a larger pulley (4.5) and no restrictor plate to keep higher boost levels out of the mid rpm range. What do you guys think?
My tuner is a very knowledgeable guy with experience in FI cars and a lot of LS cars, but so are ProCharger, ECS, and Magnacharger who all say I should be fine.
He's wrong. The restrictor plate and smaller pulley would give you more boost/power down low because it's spinning faster and that is a good thing. Why would you want to have less boost in the low/mid range? As long as it doesn't exceed what you want your max to be (6-6.5#)?
I think he was worried about that much boost at low rpms for the load the motor was under. But this is my first FI car and I'm new so I needed more opinions because I sure would love to see this car make it off the dyno lol
Sounds like your tuner is worried about the 110k miles. Hopefully you have plan B (shortblock fund) in the works. Because at minimum boost, you will want more. Just a matter of time. Boost is addicting!
If I can make it the better part of a year on this setup, I will be happy and a lot more ready for the shortblock but I'm lost on that right now. What are most people running? LSX block and stock crank hold much boost if I trash my block?
Thanks again guys for all the quick responses. After several set backs and only being able to work on weekends, Saturday I am taking the car to get tuned. I am trying to meet my deadline so I can drive it to the Rod Run show in Gatlinburg TN next weekend!
