Default Need a starter

Is anyone having issues with starters breaking? I just had my second go out in two years. The top post (looking down) pulled out of the housing. My guess is a heat related issue and figured I would ask if anyone is wrapping the starter or taking any other preventative action. While I am at it, does anyone have an extra starter that they want to sell?

We have had to wrap two starters on C6's. One was on a TTIX kit and another on a regular C6 with american racing headers. I do like the heat shield they put on the 2010 camaro's.

I ran a heat shield on mine when I was cam only. I will still have one on my TTix setup.

Is the heat shield done from a custom wrap or an aftermarket part specific to the application?

U can make a heat shield pretty easily. I was thinking of ordering one for a 2010 camaro and modding it.

I just bought some generic starter wrap for $20 at a local hot rod shop and strapped it around the starter.

Hey John,
I know it's not a C6 specific application, but I feel the need to share since the heat around my starter gets very hot from my APS TT kit.

I just bought some sticky heat wrap/tape from the auto parts store and wrapped a couple layers of that around the body of the starter. It has served me good for about 2-3 years now with no issues.

Same thing happened to mine. This is where I got the replacement:http://www.db-starter-alternator.com...-60-liter.aspx Way cheaper than anywhere else I found. I need to wrap it with some heat shield.

Dayum...that's cheap for a starter.

You guys do know you can just replace the selanoid if you go to a local starter/alternator shop? Shouldn't cost more than $10-20 for a new selanoid.

It was hard enough to find a starter nevermind the solenoid itself. Someone posted that they found a local starter shop (in AZ) that was able to replace just the solenoid.
