Default MAF and MAP Question

Has anyone had any problems overdriving the MAF and MAP sensors? If so, what did you do about it? I've got an 09 Z06 Twin Turbo car I'm trying to fine tune.

Thanks in advance guys!

Are you talking about the stock maf and map sensors?

The stock MAF will support well into the four digits as far as reading airflow. What exactly is the issue?

Have the car on a dyno and it is the stock sensors...I think. Anyway, the sensors read off the scale at 4400 rpm while under boost. Boost is around 6.5lbs.

A ZR1 map sensor will solve that problem.

Thanks for the reply.

We did try a 2 bar MAP, but we're willing to give your suggestion a shot. I assume the MAF will be fine...

Define "off the scale". You need to be a lot more descriptive.

The 2 bar map is going to be good to about 14 pounds of boost, so there is something else going on if it's crapping out at 6.5 psi. I assume the tuner knows how to enter the new specs of the 2 bar map.

DSTECK does lots of tuning and has very in-depth knowledge, so hopefully he will have an answer for you.

We're using HPTuner and it didn't play well with the 2 bar MAP, so thats why I'm here looking for alternatives.

DSteck, I appreciate your input and will get you details this evening when I get back to the car.

Should just have to load the custom OS and fill in the new VE table. Most tunes that still run a MAF will run a 100% maf tune, it will make your life easier. If I was going to all the trouble to 100% dial in a VE table I would be tempted to run SD to clean up the intake tubing by running MAFless. I do prefer to run MAFs as to me they are much easier to tune, the VE table is simply to large to get good data on every load/rpm axis.

I think DSTECK is presently running a maf only tune. My car was originally tuned in '07 and uses the stock maf which is pegged out in boost and runs off the pe table. I'm installing a bigger maf and going with the HPT custom os. I think I will run maf only until I can get it to a load bearing dyno, that seems to be about the only way to fill most of the ve cells accurately.

A MAF only tune is fine but he will still need to convert to a 2 bar custom OS to get the higher MAF tables, even if he keeps it MAF only. An 07 has a max of 12K where the 2bar OS has 15K limit along with double the grams/sec airflow limit.

Okay, I think you got things a little mixed up. I'm the one that has the '07 with the limited maf frequency and airflow constraints. I believe the op's '09 Z06 stock tune has the same maf ranges as the HPT custom 2.5 bar system.

You're exactly right. Makes me wonder even more why he is having trouble.

i bet he didn't disable the diagnositc test when installing the 2 bar map, p0068, 101,106,121. they will later need to be tuned to prevent an uncompounded etc position.

Thanks guys for all the attention.

From reading your conversation we think we need to upgrade our HPT software. Its wierd because we've done this before without all the fuss. By all means keep up the ideas flowing and I will keep you all posted.

Yes, I run my TT Z06 in pure MAF mode using the enhanced operating system from HP Tuners. I do this because I was eclipsing the 67.75 lb/min airflow limit with ease and needed the extra readable range of the sensor.

The OP needs to provide much more information and be a lot more descriptive about what is happening. The current posts are too vague.

Changing the MAP sensor will never cause a problem unless you don't fix the linear and offset values for the MAP sensor in the calibration.

DSteck, I appreciate your input and I'm trying to relay info as accrately as possible. I'm the middle man if you haven't figured it out. I don't think we are using the enhanced OS for HPT and this is where we are going to focus. Crazy as it sounds, it was working before?!

I've picked up on the fact that you're in the middle. Have whoever email me the file to:
