So far that is the plan. Still waiting to hear back on more numbers and stuff. Vengance called back and left a message. At least they followed up 4 days later.

Current Plan
5.3L Gen IV Block
Livernois Darton Sleeves 4.125"
Callies Dragon Slayer
Callies Billet Ultra I-beam Rods
Livernois/Diamond Coated 9.7:1 Pistons
ARP 1/2" Head Studs
ARP mains
Callies Billet Mains
Vortech Ysi
ECS Fuel System
Cam and Lifters ????

Reuse my TSP 285CC heads, etc. Nothing has been ordered so it is all subject to change.

Just looks like a bad lifter. Cam stuff was all tight. All the lifters cam right out. The one with the broken tip I just pushed down so it didn't damage the bore. Pistons, valves, etc all look great. Pictures added

So what's the plan now? Still a rebuild?

I'm not 100% sure. Needs a new cam and lifters for sure. I need to lift the motor out to pull the pan off and get the broken piece of lifter out of the pan. If the motor is coming out it is at least getting pistons. The plan is either throw some Diamond 9.7:1 pistons, new cam, new bearings, arp mains, arp rod bolts, etc in it and reuse the stock block/crank/rods. Or option two is sell the short block as is, and build an LSX block with all high end stuff. Leaning towards option 2 but need to find a buyer for my short block.

I vote option 2. Was there any damage to the block?

Nope. Block looks fine. Everything in good shape. I too vote option 2 which would include upgrading to a Ysi, fuel system, etc.

I'll get the motor out tomorrow to double check it and see.

Might be interested in the shortblock depending on price. Let me know what you decide.

Interesting. Just busted out the calipers and inspected everything. The pin on the comp cam was oversized causing the cam gear to stick on it. When torqueing the bolts to 18 ft-lbs it never got flush to the cam surface because it got stuck on the pin. That caused excessive thrust which killed the lifter. The cam gear slides on easy to the stock cam and sits nice and flush.

give comp a call, they are pretty good about fixing obvious mistakes like that. maybe you'll get a free set of lifters with a free cam?

Wow, that's nuts. It makes sense though. My car gear slid on the end of my cam with no resistance, but that's a bummer about yours.

I'm curious if comp can do anything about it.

You think that would have noticed on assembly!

Hoping to hear back from a few of the other shops today. So far nothing from any of them.
Jesel bronze inserts. Most big HP engines utilize them

Ugghh! If that's truely the cause I would send it back, ask for a refund, and call it a day.

I quit purchasing Comp products a while back. Thier quality has been sub par in the past and more so in the recent past (bad batch of springs and lifter problems) and this to me confirms it still is an issue.

Lifter bore is fine. Lifter didn't spin or anything, just lose the tip and beat up the cam. Motor is almost out but I have no help to pull it right now so I maybe done for the day. Already got 3-4 phone calls locally of people wanting the motor.

I agree. Then again the bolts torqued to 18 ft/lbs and you wouldn't notice just by looking. I never thought of grabbing the cam and seeing if it wiggled. Never had an issue before.
