Default Belt slip

How are you guys tackling it?

This is my 2.38 pulley on my ZR1 from Lingenfelter. I notched it and the notches are wearing away. There was notches on the outer ribs too.

Hoping a DD direct drive fixes it. As for zr1 owners I dont think that will help.

The direct drive would be the solid isolator correct? I already have that.

No, seperate drive belt for the blower and accessories. I believe zr1s already have that factory.

The supercharger belt also drives the power steering and water pump.

We have not been able to hold a 2.3" pulley on any ZR1, dyno yes, real usage no.

We go with a 2.6 upper and an over drive balancer, they seem to hold.

I would do that but the problem is I road course the car and so I can't run the OD balancer.

Nah I only do HPDE but due to it over driving the water pump and power steering it will damage them.

IMO 10% is not enough to make any substantial change in pump life, sure beats belt slip anyway.

I agree that 10% isn't much, however one guy just commented that he is boiling his power steering fluid and he is stock.

I used to do that all the time with an under drive balancer on my NA C5, a lot of that has to do with how aggressive you are on track, alignment and tires used. I simply added a bigger PS cooler and viola, problem solved.

Yeah I fried the one in my Z06 and ended up going with a turn one pump. I am not too concerned about the PS pump but more with the water pump.

There are plenty of guys running 10% overdrive balancers on all of the LS motors with the stock waterpump. The LS9 does have the powersteering pump on the same belt where the other's don't, but I would say you would be fine. What is redline on your car? Also, if you are that concerned about it, you could always buy a Meziere electric water pump and negate that issue...

I don't smell anything but have really bad belt dust. This pic was before I notched the pulley. Look in the lower left behind the tensioner pulley and you can see all the black belt dust.

Redline is 6500. Do those guys road course or are they strictly drag and street cars?

If I am correct electric water pumps cannot provide enough pressure to keep up with the road course setting.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have anymore belt dust (had a lot from the belt rubbing but not slipping) but I don't think its my clutch either. The car still puts down power like crazy. I guess tonight I'll have to check and see if my boost goes up all the way and see if my speedo goes up with the RPMs.

Next step is throwing on a 1/2" smaller belt for my setup. How did you notch your pulley?
