Default RE: YSI Upgrade

After much deliberating, I've decided to go ahead and upgrade from the T-trim to the YSI this Spring!

Just as a recap, I'm keeping my stock LS2 block, but going with a .408 forged stroker, med blower cam, Meth, YSI w/2.85" pulley, 8 rib conversion combo w/OD balancer and the Aeromotive Eliminator intank pump.

I'm currenlty running 1 7/8 LT's w/hi-flo cats, and the Corsa Extreme, so I think that will be sufficient for breathing.

Any other advice? For those running a similar setup, what kind of #'s are you seeing?

Thanks!

Direct drive. I couldn't get a 2.85" pulley to hold on an 8 rib without it.

I have a 427, ysi w/ 2.85", med blower cam. Made 914rwhp at 6100rpm before the belt slipped.

I would also say a DD is a must. With a 408, I'd go with a healthy cam to let it get the air in with a 2.85 pulley.

8 Rib with a direct drive...

364ci/YSI with 3.0" pulley is making 915whp @ 7000rpm. No slip.

Are you planning to turn up the whp? Any plans to run Meth?

I'll ask about the DD, so far no vendor has mentioned it...they have mentioned the OD balancer.

Sounds good on the 8 Rib with DD. I'm planning to take all steps to prevent slipping.

Already have an alky control dual nozzle setup. Plan to try to make 950+ once I get the car back together. Just working on finishing the direct drive and catchcan install.

Dallas Performance doesn't need to advertise their products. They don't do it on any of the forums, their stuff is some of the best made. It's why most of us run the DP DD.

Trust the advice others have given. Maxing out that YSI on an 8 rib and just an IW overdrive 8 rib is asking for problems. The YSI is not like turning a T trim. I've found that out in the past.

Nice! With that big 427 under the hood, any chance you'll shoot for 1000whp??

Roger that! I just sent DP a message. Looking to see how much they'll charge me for the whole set up... YSI head unit, 8 Rib conversion and DD and other accessories.

Thanks!

With regards to the YSI head unit itself, should I get a unit with the curved or straight discharge?

I've decided to step up to a medium cam as well.

I'd contact DP by phone for their DD. Probably will never get a response by PM, I don't see Taylor posting a lot.

Get Arun's stage 3-4 blower cam, and let him or ECS get you the headunit. Arun is a great guy to do business with, proven cams, etc.

I noticed that I didn't get a response from them. I had also sent them a message via their website. I'll just call them. I've also contacted ECS and A&A corvette regarding the head unit. I'm trying to see if someone will take my T-trim on a trade. If not, I know that I can sell it myself as guys are always looking to upgrade. It's in excellent condition inside and out and has about 12k miles on it.

Summit Racing is selling new Polished YSI units for 3122.00,.. that may be pretty tough to beat. The shop that is doing the work will be doing the cam. They are excellent engine builders and no doubt have one of the best tuners in the business.

I still have a bit to go before I start though,... things will get underway by the end of Feb.

Also, for you guys runnings 850+ whp, what clutches are you running? I'm currently eyeing the RPS Stree twin carbon which goes for about 1800.00. It's rated at 800whp. RPS has a Triple carbon clutch coming in at 3500.00 which is rated at 1400 hp, but that will be overkill for me. Looking for something that will handle 1000whp comfortably.

Thanks for all of your input!

Summits price will easily be beat. That is higher than any price I got quote on a Ysi.

Slowsome, what pulley sizes for 21psi? I'm trying to get a 2.85" 7.25" crank with a DD to work but can't get a belt in the correct size.

I had a 2.75 pulley with an 8 inch overdrive ECS/Innovators West Balancer....That was with the filter off, With the filter on it would make 18 psi and made 91x rwhp....

I had Livernois Stage 2 LS3 Heads and LS3 Intake
Arun CCP Stage 4 Cam
Kooks 1 7/8 Headers
Flip Drive
Alky Control Single Nozzle Meth

The belt I used was a Gates Micro V AT 080537
I bought a belt on ebay that wasn't AT and it wouldn't fit...lol

This setup with a 3.00 inch pulley used a Gates 080545 or an 080550

I got a 080525 and it is too long with the 2.85" and stock (7.25") crank pulley. I think my only option it to go out to a 3.125" for now to get a belt to fit good and then swap to the 8.0" crank down the line when I feel like doing that much work.

Yeah the next size down is a 080514 which is a 52 inch belt. Yours is a 53 1/8 and it's quite a bit of difference.
