Default 900+whp dyno test - stock Z06 mufflers vs. no muffler and DP Big Mouth vs. open inlet

I threw the car on the dyno today to test out some possible options to make a little more power. I've always wondered if there was a restriction in the z06 muffler where it necks down to 2.5" at this power level, so the easiest way to test having less restriction with a 3" muffler was to remove the muffler entirely and dump the exhaust at the ends of the x-pipe. I was also curious how much hp could be gained with an open inlet on my F1A blower vs. using the 4" Dallas Performance intake (which was already a huge improvement at much lower boost and hp levels)

The basic setup is a 6.0L motor with a maxed out F1A @ ~18psi. I'm running 1 7/8th OBX headers and x pipe for the rest of the exhaust.

With the stock Z06 mufflers and Dallas Performance 'big mouth' intake on, the car made 915whp/815wtq.

With no mufflers/x-pipe dumped at the axles, the car made 907whp/818wtq.

With no mufflers/x-pipe dumped at the axles and no intake on the blower, the car made 937whp/829wtq.

nice, stock z06 mufflers flow better than no mufflers!

I once read with the c5s at least, having something as loud as open cutouts actually messed with the knock sensors and made it dyno lower.

Either way, I would have figured no filter would have yielded higher numbers. Shows you have a pretty free flowing system as is.

What about no filter with mufflers?

That's a nice comparison. Very interesting indeed. I'd like to see no filter with mufflers also. Maybe I'll try this out on mine just to see what it does. Did you see any boost changes?

I didn't try that since it was a bit more work to setup. I thought it would pick up power with both changes. With mufflers on I'd guess it would be between 935 and 950 whp.

I wasn't tracking boost, but based on my last inlet testing, I would guess that 30 whp gain was a result of slightly more boost with the restriction removed.

Na, I just use whatever format they have as the default. Just trying to keep it consistent for comparisons like this.

Yea, the streetable setup is pretty efficient.

Yea, clutch feels fine, same as when I first pulled the spring. So far I'm really happy with the rxt.

Now try and smaller pulley right before TI and don't tell White_Lightning.

Cool test! Nice to see some real world testing going on..

I'm not shocked a bit by the gain from no inlet pipe/filter, mine gained 44hp the same way...

I am pretty shocked about seeing it GAIN power with the Z06 muffs.... Was the water temp/shop temps etc etc the same? What about IATs between those two pulls? I would have thought for sure you would have gained power without mufflers..

Just goes to show you, not everything is as it seems...

Nice work on the test...

BTW... how much timing did you have in it? Is it on 93/meth or E85?

Car temps were pretty similar, but it was about a month apart, so not super scientific, I'd say it a was more of a wash than z06 mufflers gained power. Biggest take away was there wasn't a significant gain.

I'm running e85 with ~16*

Subtle, "My **** runs so good, I have nothing better to do than try removing things on the dyno and see how much it gains." post.

I had to find something to do to keep me busy between tx2k and TI
