Default Thoughts On Adding Blower Cam to ECS System

I am going to be putting on an ECS 1500 kit, meth, and ECS Stage 1 fuel system to build a reliable FI setup for my currently stock 05. The car is not a daily driver, but I do enjoy taking weeknd trips with 8-10 hour drives once in a while. I want the power there when I get on it and may track it a few times. I also am prepared to replace drivetrain on an as needed basis.

Now, I am also considering to add an ECS blower cam while they are in there, just to get it all done at once. I would like to hear from people who went from basic FI to FI plus blower cam as to how it affects their mileage and overall driveability. Even if you went from stock to FI plus blower cam, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Definitely do the cam, it will add some power and give it a nice sound. As long as you don't go huge on the cam, it really won't affect driveability or mileage.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward it anyway. Like I said, I don't drive it much and when I do, I want to really enjoy it.

On my 05 I have the ECS 1500 with their blower cam, kooks headers, highflow cats, corsa sport, and KB boost a pump. Car dynoed right over 605 rwhp on a fairly "safe" tune and gets 32 mpg on the highway through the A4. I bought it this way so I can't comment on mileage without the cam. Drivability is like stock until you hammer it. It is all about the tune. I am sure I could go quite a more with meth but 600+ is enough for now.

Default Blower Cam

When I ECS Installed my Paxton 1500 I did not get a cam installed I later went back and got thier Small Blower Cam along with 1&7/8 ARH and methanol injection (single nozzle) which was Doug's call. I was worried about gas mileage but it was not a problem. You will see a great increase in power with the installation of a cam. It is probably more cost effective to do the things that you want done at one time rather that going back for more on several occasions if time and funds allow. I have used both of ECS's blower cams I currently have the Big Blower cam in my current setup which has a built LS3 engine by ECS. Just ask a few questions and be guided by the use of your car. Good luck on your choice.

32 mpg on the highway sounds like an awful lot. Are you getting that info from the DIC or calculating it at the pump. Cause if your going by the DIC my car gets 70 mpg. Once you start changing injectors out the DIC is useless for fuel consumption.

Do ECS's small blower cam. Will have perfect manors on street but go like hell on power.

If it is "within the means", doing it all at once is more cost effective.

Its very cost effective. Not to mention its a good upgrade to the valvetrain as well.

If you're comfortable with the extra money, go for it. FI is fun enough on its own, adding a cam is icing on the cake. We've done cams that you barely hear with blowers, and ones with a good lope to it also - basically whatever the customer wants. Driveability will depend on the cam and the tuner, the cars we build here drive just as well as they do without cams, no surging or bucking (that's no fun). Mileage...well, I guess that depends on how much you are hot rodding it hard not to do!

If this is your first car over 500whp I suggest doing it in steps. If this is your 7th modded car and have been down the track hundreds of times, do it all at once.

It's the ice cream on top of the cherry cobbler. Without it, you still have some nice cobbler to enjoy. With it, it's just way better. Personally, I can't imagine one without the other
