Good to know that the 10lb spring affects drivability.

Id rather have good drivability vs cool noise, like unreal said.

On a side note, that plate up front looks horrible on the blue Z. Beautiful car though, sounds mean!

It can if you don't have enough vacuum to open it, or don't have enough BOV to bypass enough air. Ysi on a 2.75/8" pulley moves a lot of air at idle, more than 10lb single Tial can bypass in my experience.

I'm going to drive mine first and see how I like it. I'm running a stock cam and standard ecs kit. Doug recommended I drive it first before deciding on changing the spring to a 10lb spring.

Out of curiosity, for those of you that have swapped the spring, do you have to take the front bumper off to access the top of the BOV? Or can you access it from underneath the bumper?

I removed the wheel well and bumper extension to install the BOV. That should also be plenty of room to work on it or just take off band and remove whole thing.

Thanks for the response marsc6.

I guess i will have to look at it once I get the car back. Wondering if I can reach it from the top with out having to remove anything, i just need to take the 6 allen bolts out to swap the spring out on the BOV.

Wont be able to do that on the car easy, just pop the vband off and remove the BOV from the car.

Thanks unreal. Matt is just finishing up my car now. I'll drive it for a bit before I decide on that new spring. Doesn't sound too hard to pop that vband off. I'll have to look at it once I have the car back home to see what the vband looks like.

I agree with you on the better drivability as I also swapped from a 10# to a 3#. BUT, no way is it quieter. There is constant air escaping from the bov at cruising speeds that sounds like a jet plane. People will hear you from 3 blocks away... it's overbearing in my opinion.

Hmmm both of you guys that switched back to 3lb springs, are u guys running the stock ecs set up or smaller pulleys and restrictors off? I now unreal runs a smaller pulley but how about you 95vetteski? Just wondering if drive ability suffers only with the guys making big power and pushing more air than the stock ecs set ups.

I don't think a stock restricted good vacuum cam will notice a difference. Now a big blower small pulley car with a lumpy cam will.

I did do two of them. Twin tials with -3 is what I run and it is only loud on downshifts when it is dumping a lot of air. Idle/etc isn't bad at all.

Same setup here but its actually quite loud under part throttle, slow speeds... Thing is a street sweeper. Big blower big cam though...

Run a Tial 50mm QR with 3psi spring with a filter on the discharge before your intercooler, then run a Tial 50mm Q with 10+psi spring on the intercooler end tank (top or bottom)

That'd be the best of both worlds for noise and breath fine.

I'm using an 8" crank pulley and 3" blower pulley, so yes I move a lot of air. If your a stock ECS kit and stock cam stay with the 10# spring. Best option would be to consult with Doug for advice, as I'm sure he has tried every combo and will steer you in the right direction.

Finally got to drive the car. Just amazing!

As for the spring, Doug said all ecs kits ship with the 3 lb spring, unless a specific one is requested. As long as your vacuum is above 10 lbs or above at idle, then the 10 lb spring will work. And of course that the bov is open at idle.

I am going to drive mine for a bit, before I try the 10 lb spring.

It sounds wicked, but it also sounds like a street sweeper up until about 3500 rpms, then it closes up, until you let off the gas or shift.

Needless to say, its awesome.

for the guys talking about better driveability after switching springs, could you talk a little bit more about this?

how did the car become more driveable? what changed?

For those of you guys that have the # 10 spring, what color is it? The place I ordered mine from did not seem to understand what I was asking for. He did say the 10lb spring is not painted, at the end of our conversation, while the others are painted based on the weight of the spring (3lb red, etc). I dont want to put the wrong spring in my BOV. Let me know.

Going to try the #10 spring instead of the #3 I have in there now to see how the car drives. The street sweeper sound is getting a little annoying.
