Default 370, 418, or 427

Considering building the motor in my 08 Coupe w Maggie TVS2300 and 4l65 swap. Power goals will be 700whp initially, then up to 800-850 later. Let me know the best short block!

Have you considered a different blower? 800+ is going to be difficult (not impossible) with the 2300. I think a 370 would be ideal, 418 would probably work too, 427 is probably too large for the 2300.

I have considered a different blower but do not want to hand out the cash for one then try to sell mine. We are at 630whp right now on the stock 3.4 pulley with 1:1 rears. (6-8lbs)

I am leaning towards the 370 since the blower already makes tq just off idle.

Yeah the 370 is going to make the best usable power on street tires and keep the supercharger from running out of breath.

A good friend of mine made 725rwhp through a 6L80. Engine consisted of a TVS2300 Magnacharger on top of a fully forged 9.5:1 SCR, 376 cid LSA with stage 3 WCCH LSA heads. This was on 12.5lbs of boost running 91 pump gas with meth injection. We were already fighting high intake temps.

We could re-arranged the pullies for more boost but the hi intake temps kinda show that we were already running out of efficiency somewhere in the system. If I had to point a finger it would be at the charge air cooler setup of the magnacharger which they seemed to have addressed in their new 'heartbeat' model.

Its an IW 8 rib setup. Hes got the 10% overdrive lower and a 2.8 upper. The rears are the cog overdrive setup but they are flip flopped so they are in an underdrive configuration.

I went 427 LSX 9 5 1 compression and a YSI. 800 to 850 on an A6 with a built 6L80E. Stock intake and heads. Just wanted the cubic inches. You know the old adage. There is no replacement for displacement.... But considering you want to keep the 2300 you may want to stick with the 418.

I'd go stock cubes if my crank was OK. That's the cheapest route. If replacing the crank, I'd opt for a 3.8" stroke version. About 395 cubes in an LS3 block. Vs the 4.0" stroke version, it locates the piston pin a little lower and more away from the ring lands with standard length connecting rods. You can get just about all the TVS2300 has to offer without going too much bigger than that. Just keep the compression ratio up there (10.5ish).

IM with motorhead
if your going to keep the 2300 just do a piston rod swap. It will be cheaper and your blower wont have to fill so many CI. you will make plenty of TQ even with the smaller CI motor.
OD cogs rear and IW 8 rib front. dont go to low on the compression. The 2300 likes a higher compression. When we do these builds were usually around 9.6-10.2 on the compression. Do all this and with the right cam and heads you should be close to 800Wheel

Who makes that crank?

I also think you should do compression around 10.0-10.5:1. If running E85, I would even do 10:5-11:1. You will make more HP per pound of boost with higher compression. Cam selection and valve events will be key in making the power and keeping it happy.

AES, among others, use the 3.8" stroke Callies cranks.

I'm sure you know this, but at 800+ rwhp, your 4L65E is going to be living a stressed life at that power.

An 80 is on the ever growing punchlist! Lol I am going to see how long this 65 will run, luckily I am good buddies w my tuner (Black Ops Motorsports) so borrying a lift for a refresh every now and then isnt a problem.

I have a couple reasons for sticking with this blower. 1 there is a bunch of 1/8th mile tracks around me and not one 1/4 within 2 hours. 2nd would be I am into doing stuff that not many have done. I am the only Maggie vette in my home town among several turbo and centri built vettes.

I am dropping to a 16in drag pack and run NT05rs on the car for the street.
