I should do that (loop the lines at the tranny) as my lines run right up against my downpipe. I don't think there's much cooling going on there.

The "cooler" serves two purposes; it cools the fluid, and then puts it back into the front of the shaft. Without it, under extended hard acceleration all the fluid goes to the back and the front gears get oil starved. IIRC the cooler locations on the 6060 are the same or close enough that the Z51 lines would just plug in.
The cooler line on the drivers side is about 1-2" lower than on a T56 Z51 car. The line bends easily (without kinks) into the new position.

The passenger side one lines up perfectly. I just did both of these yesterday.

Ok. I see. So I should still consider a Z06 T56 or TR6060 for sake of keeping the front gears cooled and lubed. I haven't committed to any transmission configuration yet so I still have time to figure this one out.

Yah, my lines were touching the headers, and I wanted to unload some load off the radiator. Since I don't road race I just looped them at the back. Worst case I can add a cooler later in the rear fender if needed.

You flare the ends or anything or just cut, debur and loop with hose and clamps?

I would avoid putting a trans cooler in the wheel well. A leak could cause the trans fluid, an obvious lubricant, to get on one of your rear tires and cause you to lose control. The results could be disastrous. Just looking out for you bro.

Ok so there is great info in this thread, but i would be lying if i said i understood it totally.

That said i have an 05 z51 that i am going to be supercharging. I should crack 600rwhp with what i am going to do, but what i wanted to know is what is the cheapest way to strengthen the differential situation? A c5, or do i need a c5 z06. Now because my car is a z51 with the tranny cooler, will i be able to bolt a c5 diff right to this or is it more complicated than that? Thanks for any info? Sorry op if i hijacked your thread!

How is that different from in front of the car and lines running all the way up. No more risk than a factory setup. If a line leaked on factory it would get everywhere.

I'm just thinking aloud here and you probably know these cars better than I do but here's my thoughts.
When the Cooler is upfront and in the radiator, I don't think the tanks and connections are directly in front of a tire, so if it leaks it probably won't get onto the tire.

If the cooler is in the wheel well, you could have all sorts of debris slung around in there that could cause a leak directly over a tire.

If you have a brake cooling duct that you could mount the cooler in, that could be better.

I think I would just mount it under the car somewhere but I haven't looked for any place in particular yet.

The cheapest way is likely the C5 3 rib differential and I think it will bolt directly to your trans. However, you should probably also use a DTE type brace to tie the diff/trans together. Your best bet is to talk to RPM transmissions for your options. Also, if you go with a C5 diff (non-Z06) I think you will lose the diff cooler.

What makes you say that i would lose the tranny cooler? Is the cooler for the tranny, or diff, or both

I think You would lose the Diff cooler on your Z51 diff if you switch to a base C5 diff. You would not lose the functionality of the trans cooler.

I thought the z51 had oil and trans coolers... I forgot about the diff i guess... I am a toolmaker and have access to anyType of tool room equipment you could imagine... There is a YouTube video that shows the general idea of the bracket that you need to make to support the c5 diff In a c6. I would probably bolt a plate on to the diff mount... Only cause i dont know how to weld... I am pretty sure that i can fab up the parts i would need at work, but it would be a pain in the *** not having the milling machine and such at my home.. I guess I'll have to take very careful measurements when and if I decide to do this...

the video is in this post #37 or 39

I'm pretty sure you do but. All you need to do is look at your diff. If you see a tube coming from the passenger side doing across the back to the drivers side with rectangular block, then you do..

An '05 Z51 has transmission and engine oil coolers built into the radiator. There is no diff cooler. Swapping to a C5 diff has no effect on either. You would need one of Stanger383's brackets to mount the C5 diff to the C6 cradle and you need to shave some of the cooling fins off the bottom of the diff to clear the leaf spring.

Missed this. Cut and used compression fittings to adapt to barbed fittings, then a piece of fuel line type hose, back to barbed compression fitting.

Oil/tranny fluid leaking out of the front would get everywhere. Having a cooler in the fender (where brakes ducts are, not just next to wheel) to me has no more risk than having them up front. If oil/fluid was spewing out up front it is going to get all over the tires. That's like saying an oil leak up front won't get on tires because the motor is in the middle of the car.
