It is mainly for cooling. Once you hit say 750-800rwhp, the fuel supply needed is vastly increased. So to increase the supply you run the pumps harder. This increase in volume, will dead head when not used, creating pressure and heat. Any fluid movement that isnt doing work will create heat. By returning back to the tank it can cool down.

That makes sense thanks.

A lot of big power setups run multiple pumps though where the additional pumps only come on when needed so I don't see how that would deadhead and create excessive.l heat. I guess your explanation only applies when you can't get fuel flow rate below some point due to the size of the main pump.

Yes. One thing to remember is that the Zr1 has no regulator so the fuel pressure is regulated by the fpcm. Also, this assembly is $1400 new, so might be a bit reduculous to find one to use in the first place.

They just fit. The bracket the Racetronix pumps are attached to happens to be the exact size of the bucket. Socks and everything just slide it.

1. Drill holes in bucket
2. connect wires
3. Dont need the Tiny small tiny hose
4. Dont need any regulator or block off
5. Let the filter hang outside bucket
6. Change the bigger hose to a submersible E85 hose
Ready to rumble?

Been a few years now since this thread was started

Has anyone confirmed the runaway fuel pressure issue that racetronix mentions?
On E85 and on 93 octane fuels.
Any users who has had a failing pump or fuel pressure regulator?

have a walbro 450 in mine. Bottom cut out of the fuel pump hat. No issues with fuel pressure and been running it for 3-4 years. Car is flex fuel and I run pump and e85 through it.
