Ok so I'm planing on buying a supercharger kit very soon. How much harder will it be to install a cam? I have never done any kind of engine work on a corvette. I have worked on Hondas a lot but just simple stuff like engine swaps, head gaskets and bolt ons of that sort. I read somewere that it's only like 1 hour of additional work to drop in a cam while doing the supercharger install. Is this true? How difficult is it? How hard is it to do the valve springs? I'm a decent mechanic but just a little intimidated by it. I can't seem to find a write up on a diy c6 cam install.

I installed a cam in my garage and it's not hard, but time consuming. When you do a sc the rack and pinion must be removed in order to pin the crankshaft so that's one step that is normally done while doing a cam swap in order to remove the harmonic balancer. Another step is to drain the radiator and sometimes remove it depending on the sc kit, so that could be another step during a cam swap that is one less thing to do later on. The dual spring compressor sold by jegs, comp cams or crane cams is a plus, otherwise it would take longer...ask me how I know.
I'll be installing an ECS kit soon and I'm not faced at all by it since the cam swap was a very similar task.
It is definatly a good time to do cam swap if you plan to do that. Removing rack to pin crank is not easy and will be even harder with supercharger kit in the way later. It's not much more work to do it at that time. Most consuming part at that point is valve springs. With comp cams tool cam be done in a couple hours.
not that hard to do but does take time, longer than the hour you mentioned, with the right tools depending on your skills i would plan a full day, i did mine in about 6hrs taking my time and being careful.
its not hard on a vette. Just freaking time consuming. But pretty DIY for a wrecher no problem. Let me know when your ready for that supercharger and cam kit and i will hook it up for you!! shoot me a PM
