Found out that Chevron mistakenly used 87 octane in the 94 pumps. Tank was near empty before filling, and I ran the car for about 25 miles (not too hard) without any noticeable issue before I saw the news that night of the mix up. I have a 2010 Grandsport LS3 with the E-Force 1590 (554 hp).
Questions:
1) what are the chances of damage to the engine?
2) would this show up immediately, or later in life?
3) to properly drain, I assume I should drop the tanks to properly empty (Chevron will be paying for the tow to GM dealership and tanks to be drained)
4) any other advice/thoughts?
Pull the fuse for the pump, get an on/off fuse, pull the fuel hose, empty the tank, replace the stock fuse. Takes 10 minutes. Or just run the car like normal out of boost.
Or just enjoy it and stay out of boost. Car is setup to run anything from 87-93, and same with aftermarket tunes. I wouldn't even hassle with a tow truck, dealer, because the risk of them causing damage is much much much higher than you just driving it easy for a tank.
