Default Any negatives using e85

Are there any pitfalls, extra maintenance or engine wear using e85?

Worse fuel mileage, but I'm sure you already knew that one

But cheaper price. So they mileage doesn't make a huge diff.

You do need harden valve seats and guides as well as change the oil more often. E85 will bring more water into your oil, but with proper maintenance this should not cause problems.

Having to run pumps that are E85 compatible
Fuel mileage
Can be dirty to run (have to change my fuel filter every 3 months). External filter is a must IMO

Other than that, I love E85!

Availability, consistency.

Both not an issue if you do flex fuel.

I'm waiting on Cordes to install my sofa though.

I do my own work, but Joe hooks me up with great pricing on parts so get a large amount of stuff from him.

How much more often are oil changes? After pulling it out of storage for sure in the spring and when the DIC say 50%? 70%?

Rule #1 with E85

DO NOT LET IT SIT.

Drain it and run 93oct through before parking it for long periods.

I've personally been a dumbass and let mine sit for like 3 months, which I wouldn't recommend. Unless you like replacing fuel components. Realistically I wouldn't let it go for more than a month. Get a flex fuel sensor and be done with it. That's next on my list since I'll be working out of state soon.

huh.... I can see this with older cars or carburated applications. But around here I haven't heard anyone complain about e85 over the winter. I made sure everything was topped off in the tank as to remove any airgaps.

I suppose I'll find out in spring on that front. I do plan on doing flex fuel tho.

What about the oil change interval tho?

Pull out your injectors after sitting for a winter and have them flow tested. A good friend of mine ruined a set of id2000S that way. I'll never chance it when it's so easy to just drain it or run 93 with a flex fuel sensor

For oil I change mine every 1500-2000 miles because I beat the **** out of my car.

I always heard about not letting it sit but just haven't heard a specific time frame. Got the flex fuel stuff setup already.

Your environment will change how long it can safely sit.
