I been meaning to ask this question for over a year but never got around to it. What does traction control do, if anything? I can pretty much break the tires free anytime in 1st or 2nd (A6). Does TC work "just a little"? Would the tire spin increase if I turned off TC?
Thanks
The factory TC is pretty much crap like everyone above said. On my car, it can spin violently with the TC on and then all of a sudden, the ETC slams the throttle blade shut and it will literally pitch you forward. It doesn't seem to regulate the throttle, just waits until there is excessive wheel spin and then stalls the power completely. They should call it "wheelspin shutoff".
If you're not hitting that proverbial brick wall and your car is spinning in first and second, it may be that someone has shut off TC in the tune?
I've been wondering whether it's possible to tune the factory TC settings, and if anyone has experimented with tuning it with any success, but it looks like everyone who needs proper traction control has switched over to an aftermarket ECU.
Interesting comments. This is my 3rd Corvette, 2001, 2009, and now a 2013 with the A&A. I never hit "the wall" with any of them. The rear tires just spin. Perhaps I am lucky, lol.
Traction control is setup for a stock car at stock power. It doesnt' adjust or anything for more power. So it pulls some timing, shuts the throttle, etc, but if you have added 200+hp you can still easily overpower it.
Traction works great on a bone stock car, it just isn't a performance system.
