Default Velocity stack

Anyone have any real word gains with one? I'm having my car tuned next week with the new motor. 427 lsx 10:1 d1sc, e85, hce, stock heads, fore fuel system and id13o0. Wondering if its worth getting or not.

Vic had noticeable gains when he added a stack. I'm tempted to give the Blox stack/filter a chance

Ive seen it work on honda motors before, Ive never tested it on a big motor, but I can imagine it would work. Most filters people use dont have enough surface area, which makes it a restriction

I gained 2 psi and 47 hp using a velocity stack over a 4", 90* inlet pipe and older style A&A filter.

V Stack vs. 4" pipe/filter:

No other changes...other then it was a bit hotter once I made the final pull with the filter/pipe back on.

How does it compare to no filter? I gained 3psi and 90rwhp swapping filters to a high flow race filter.

What filter are you using?

we didn't dyno before after on my car because max'd out the 2005 MAP sensor but I've seen similar results to the above guys on all sorts of motors from 250hp NA setups to turbo supras. on a friend's 750whp supra he gained >40whp moving to big bell mouth setup. depends on the setup but I've never seen a big bell mouth velocity stack not pickup good amount of power from the intake on there before. I run the BLOX stack with a custom AFE filter right on the front of my blower full time.

on a few cars I've seen it make them run considerably leaner though so be careful with the tune.

This is my opinion on this subject.

Run the factory A&A/ECS filter/dongle for street use. Works great, can make well over 1000, and filters well.

When you race, pop it off, put a guard or velocity stack on the blower, and enjoy.

This also allows you to run a full size radiator with good full size fans.

do you notice a huge jump in AFR when you go to your AIRAID race filter? I'd think the additional 40-90whp would mess the tune up and would require a different tune?

curious how much your AFR changes if you just throw the stack or air raid setup on there.

Not at all. Speed density FTW. Boost goes from ~21 to 24psi, so its on a totally different part of the fuel/timing map.

The bottom of a round filter is already shaped like a velocity stack except it has the filter media in front on it.....when u run with no filter or velocity stack the sharp edges of the impeller opening don't make for very smooth path for incoming air...from what I remember seeing in Steve Morris videos is with filter will make more power than no filter

Nice. Did you go with a oval or traditional cone shaped. Trying to find the exact one you're using.

You can buy a Blox stack with filter for like $60 on eBay. I'm going to hold off on getting one since I need a retune with meth anyway.

Run whatever fits, it doesn't matter. They are just a open mesh screen. Size/shape won't matter. Get a turbo guard, or a stack, or an airaid race filter which is just a piece of screen.

I don't have numbers but I could tell a noticeable difference between running stacks vs air filter/ nothing / screen.
