Hey there guys, I was wondering where I could get a restrictor for my Ysi. I'm at 18-19psi and was thinking of bringing it down to 15psi or so for the street just to be on the safer side. My tune is good but I figure it'll less stresson the motor too. Would this be ideal for what I want? I was thinking of a bigger pulley but I don't wanna under spin the blower and make it lazy.
I thought I saw Doug@ECS say IAT's start going up pretty quick when you restrict the larger blowers, so I'd keep an eye on that if you do end up doing it.
As far as where to get the plate.. all it is is literally a piece of metal cut into a circle with a hole in the middle of it. You could make it out of something from Home Depot if you wanted to, or I'm fairly sure ECS would sell you one of theirs, assuming it would fit whatever setup you are using.
Not sure you can run a boost controller or wastegate on a centri setup. Boost is controlled by the pulley unlike a turbo. But I'll let the pros chime in.
Tuning issues or what? It's more parts to go wrong, but the last one I saw had massive amounts of midrange punch where we spend most our time in a weak street car.
You can, but it isn't as easy as people make it out to be. And there are other issues with doing it.
Good to know. I guess he could use a wastegate to bleed boost? Once you factor in the cost and complexity I would imagine going with a bigger pulley to be much more cost effective and easier.
Works decent to run say a 15psi pulley and bleed off to 12 for a bit more mid range. Does not work well to run 24psi and limit boost to 12-13psi at low speeds. Compressor surge, crazy boost response, etc. Thats my experience with it. Also bigger blowers dont' seem to like it. Just like the restictor plates, works great for a 2-3psi change on a novi 1500, not so much on more extreme setups.
Doing it like that article says is fine, say 9psi setup, limit boost to 8psi with gate, for a nice 30-35tq/hp bump in midrange. Now leaving a 19psi Ysi setup and trying to bleed it down to 14-15psi, not so much in my experience.
