Default ECS Methanol Kit Dyno

Decided to have ECS install their Methanol Kit on my 2008 LS3. As I was placing my receipt into my car folder archive, I came upon the last two Dyno runs performed after previous MOD installs. Just thought I'd share with you all.

2010 - My first Engine MOD - American Racing Headers and a Custom Tune provided by the Vette Doctors

2011 - Supercharger Install and Custom Tune by Doug at East Coast Supercharging

2016 - Methanol Kit and Custom Tune by Doug at ECS

Probably nothing earth shattering compared to others on this site...but when that little green led light illuminates on the "A" Pillar, I sure do get a huge smile on my face!!!

Was the boost increased? Meth dependent now?

It gained 120rwhp with just the addition of meth? That doesn't seem right. You sure he didn't change pulley and/or remove restrictor?

I guess I should have an answer to that...I just looked at the receipt and there was no mention of any boost increase or restrictor plate removal. As far as meth dependent, I was told that at around three psi the meth system will prime itself, a red light will illuminate above my boost gauge and at around 5 or 6 psi (I think that's what he told me) the system will start to spray and a green light will illuminate showing positive flow. A windshield wiper fluid low light will show up on the DIC when I need to fill the meth tanks. He said there are safe guards installed in the programming if no flow is detected.

Looking at the second Dyno I posted I think Doug at ECS may have given me the wrong Dyno result. If you look at the top it has my name (Scott Bear) but on the bottom it list the name Gerald Aiello...I probably had more power then I thought!

What are the usual gains for my setup?

I think you're right!

Depends on how it's tuned but with additional timing maybe 40rwhp or so.

When Meth is installed the tuner has the ability to safely increase the boost and timing that is why you gained so much HP. My guess is boost went from 6 psi to around 12psi. Also your tune at those power levels are meth dependent but the system does have fail safes for no meth condition.

As genolan already stated, every car at this power level is meth dependent unless you are running race gas or E85.

It is the correct dyno sheet, I just had a different folder open at the time. My mistake, sorry.

But to answer the boost question, yes the restrictor plate was opened up.

I hope you are enjoying it Scott!!

The following is off-topic, sorry for that.

Your dyno graph from 2011 is a bit strange. Maybe there was knock, maybe belt slip, whatever, but that dip especially at 4000 rpm in the torque graph isn't normal.

Anyway, at 3000 rpm, you used to have about 260 rwhp.

Now you have about 240 rwhp.

You lost 20 rwhp.

Strange, isn't it?

Anyway, the later setup is of course much much better than the previous one. Have fun with your car!
