Time to switch gears; literally

While the RPM Level 7 T6060 is boasted as one of the best manual transmission available for our cars it does have It's limits. Talked to RPM and theyre putting together something special in lieu of my obscene power goals. Details to come but with the new ratios heres a gear speed breakdown:

From 3th to 4th....must be an error in the Excel...not dropping that much.

Anyway, very good!

I did it by hand using an online calculator so errors are possible

New ratios:
2.71/1.79/1.30/1.00/.86/.75

Old ratios:
2.29/1.61/1.21/1.00/.818/.675

going to rev this motor to 8k?

surprised not going with longer gears to make 1/2 mile in 4th gear given will be so traction limited in probably every gear anyway

Although it is just a helical gearset so probably just stock gears. So nowhere near the strength of Tuomas's gearbox. His is truly a work of art.

For me that wont work because I want to drive this car on the street, its not going to be trailered to an event, make a pass and be trailered home, there's plenty who do that already.

Next traction is the expected issue so that's where my driving and Addicted's tuning are going to come in

A lot of aftermarket sequentials have relatively low power ratings though. No doubt they will handle their specified rating very well....but who knows beyond that.

A lot like the T56 and Magnums. Although they're damn well proven far beyond the factory ratings. Whether aftermarket build in as much safe capacity...harder to say. Lets face it, vehicles pushing 1000....1500...2000 with manual trans such as these are few and far between, although they are getting a little more common.

For the speeds and road use though ?

I just cant see how a 2 speed sloppy would ever be nice.

In general....what sort of boxes are the cars using that are in the 200+ 1/2 mile range ?

or cars close to it ? RWD cars, not the other stuff.

Most are running glides or TH400s in the really fast RWD stuff. Partly because of the power handling of the transmission, and partly because of the ability to run a 9" with whatever rear gears you want.

I don't know about the flying mile or the races that Sinister (and other's here too) do, but the Really fast drag Guys (like Jeff Lutz and Tom Bailey and more) use a gear vendors overdrive unit on their cars, along with a Rossler trans.

These are cars low sixes and high fives in the quarter and do actually drive their cars from event to event on the Power Tour or Drag Week.

I'd think that space and location would be the two biggest factors in a Vette, but a Glide and a Gear Vendors would be a bulletproof setup and also gives you a few more choices as far as gearing goes.

I believe that they make them to go onto a manual trans too.

Just an idea and Thanks Sinister for posting up your build!

Hinson did something like 230+ with their C5 - in the mile though...

RHS block. Single turbo. ZR1 trans and diff. Brian ended up breaking one of the gears in the trans. As far as I know, he hasn't rebuilt it. Shame. It's a badass car.

Of course, Mark Carlyle has gone 230+ in the 1/4 with his drag car and a glide/9" setup. But his car is no where near streetable.

Sinister, dude, I wish you the best in your quest. (lol - rhymes). It's not an easy road you're going down, but the reward will be worth it!!

One of the problems with a vette, you can't just add a gear vendors OD because of the torque tube setup. If that was an option, then glides would be far more common.

You're Welcome!

Those head ports look like you could use them as a water slide (they're probably big enough to use them for one too)

Thanks! I forgot about the torque tube.
