Default Direct drive squeal and slipping.

Looks like ECS doesnt make their cog drive anymore and I'm tired of not being able to run the AC whenever I need it. Is anyone running the A&A secondary drive that adds the 4th belt to only turn the jackshaft pulley? Is it a permanent fix?

I've got one getting installed right now. Should be done soon and then I'm taking it right to a racing event. I'll post feedback once I beat on it a bit.

I have the older design but using the c5 tensioner and green 4 rib belt to drive the AC. Been on for 2 years, tons of dyno pulls and daily driven rain, sun, snow and no issues with the setup.

That problem went away for me when I switched to a heavier duty tensioner and a gatorback belt on the A/C.

What can you tell me about this heavy duty tensioner? My tensioner and belt(gatorback) are about a year old. Id much rather change a tensioner with the chance it will help over pulling the balancer to get more ribs cut.

I cant find the info for the tensioner. I will look more this aft. It was just a GM part from rockauto. The have a few models but I forget which one exactly. It had considerably more tension that then one it replaced. A/C used to squeal every time I turned it on, but hasn't since the change.

Mine squeals for about 30s-1min when I start it up cold, nothing after that. It's coming from the passenger side which is either AC or blower. Do you have the A&A flip drive?

Mine and everyone I know with a traditional flip drive squeals once the belt brakes in and loosens up. My ECS cog one has been flawless, and I would expect the new A&A one with the 3 belt setup to be the same.

The c5 and new tensioner, and better belt probably helps a lot, and some people like Canuk get away with it, but it seems some people do not.

Hi Canuk,
Just want to revive this thread about the heavy duty AC tensioner
you used? Was it a c5 or c6 AC belt tensioner as I want one with
some more tension. Thanks, Brian

I have the newest A@A flip drive and mine squeals sometimes on cold starts and also after it sits for a little while after driving. Only had it installed like 6months ago. Not sure what belt it is or what exactly to do to determine which one.

Mine did the exact same thing. I went one size down on the alternator/power steering belt and no more issues.

I cant find the bill but I am pretty sure it was ACDELCO 38462, which looks like the stock one but they told me it was stronger. It did feel quite a bit stronger then the one I replaced, although that could be due to the original ones age and use.
Either way that and a gatorback (continental elite) belt got rid of the squealing I was getting whenever I started my AC. Still seems to be fine and we are like 3or 4 years later I think.

I might try this, do you remember the size? Turning on/off the ac doesn't affect my squeal but turning the steering wheel does (thinking PS pump).

I didn't try turning ac on, but mine also does it when turning the wheel.
