4L80E questions
I have been kicking around the idea of going auto and would like to know what all needs to be changed for a TR6060 change over to a 4L80E. What is the fastest 1/4 time in a C6 with 4L80E? How long do they last at 1300-1400RWHP? anyone in that pwr lvl on one? I don't want to go glide or TH400. Any other info would be awesome.

Don't know much about it other than a local guy here runs high 7's with one. I'm pretty sure I read that the install requires a bunch of cutting on the tunnel.

I know it requires a 05 Auto torque tube and or cut and shortening any other one used for it. I know they have to widen the trans tunnel towards the rear where the Flex plate is located. I know I've seen a few going high 7's. But don't know of any living at those power levels for any length of time. I don't understand it really as I know a ton of the truck guys use is successfully at those power levels regularly with a normally built 4L80. Rossler advertises one to hold 1800hp, but I haven't seen anyone get one to live long in a higher HP Corvettes. I don't get it really. The trucks are heavier etc...

Awesome. Thanks for the info. So I guess it seems tonbe quite a bit of work. Wonder how much $ I would be looking at by the end of it all. I could sell my RPM LVL 6 TR6060 plus tq tube and solid 3.5 inch driveshaft. Also could sell my Monster clutch thats rated for 2000rwhp.

My Friend runs a very fast Nova with a 4L80, but to get his to live in the 8's and high 7's reliably, he has gong to a FMVB and non lock up converter, but I can't say why that was needed.

have also seen them survive in heavier cars with not many issues and holding big power. thinking it has to do with it being rear mounted vs all the others engine mounted? maybe, not sure.

4l80 is a beast.
If your thinking about going to an automatic then the 4l80 is the way to go. Your not going to get a stronger automatic in my opinion. The 4l80 is the electronic version of a 400, with the added benefit of overdrive. While the unit is strong and will hold up as is stock, once you added better clutches, shafts, and a shift kit, your looking at something that's indestructible. You should talk to Jim at built right transmissions out of Shreveport. He does a lot of this. Very knowledgeable when it comes to automatics and conversions.
