Default LSX Block Rear Seal

So, I think I blew out the rear seal on my LSX block.

For the shoe-string o-rings, I heard people to use a good bit of RTV on them. Do people typically fill the entire run of the o-ring with RTV or just the bottom where the pan meets the rear cover? Want to ensure that I only have to take the rear end out of the car once to fix this.

It doesn't sit in the groove by itself well at all. I was actually taught to use dabs of super glue every few inches. Could use RTV instead, and if so I'd do a light smear all the way around to make sure it stays in the groove.
