I've looked through old threads and MM's instructions and I'm a little confused. Had a shop install this, then another shop changed the setup. I'm trying to figure out if this is how I should have it setup, and if I should change it. I'm thinking about changing the mounting location to the battery area or somewhere that won't require a 180 degree bend. Should the can be capped instead of using a breather? And should the hose go from the can to the intake like it does?
WTF did they do to it? No it should not be capped. Why didn't you call David about any questions. It is not even close to installed correctly.
Just to note how stupid this is, the filter has a 1 way check valve in it, so it acts as a safety device and only vents an over pressure situation. Capping off the top does nothing but disable a great safety device.

I thought this may be the case, I'll have to give him a call. I was staring at the directions and felt pretty dumb about it since it seems very simple, and felt bad calling uninformed.
What else should I change?
edit - The shop told me they called David and this is how he told them to set it up.

Despite this being proven for several years now as a solid setup, I do from time to time without question get told that the air filter causes a vacuum leak which of course it does not.
Oh yeah and never would I ever suggest sealing off the top. I have actually been asked if I could custom make one without the pressure release and I refuse.

Thank you for the response! I actually emailed you shortly after posting this thread. I will be installing the filter back on immediately. Is this also the ideal locations for the hoses?
if the can exit is to the intake manifold and the valley plate is to the s/c inlet bridge or the driver cover, and the passenger cover stock vent barb is capped that is ok.
