Default Boost & Headers

I have a c6 Z06 with an A&A S/C running 6 lbs. of boost with stock exhaust manifold. My question is that if I put headers on will I lose a couple of lbs. of boost? If so, how much power would I lose and how do I get it back? Should I do a pulley swap or can I get it back with the retune? Currently I've got 660 whp/600wtq. Also never had the heads done on this LS7, and every time I see my tuner/engine builder he makes me feel like my engines going to blow before I make it out of his property If I don't do the heads. I know there has been 40 million dicussions about that but its hard to fix something that aint broke!

I would not hesitate to get the heads done because it's cheap compared to a catastrophic failure. The car will likely make more power at lower boost (1-2 lbs) with the headers and a tune. To regain the boost and make more power, pulley down.

Ok thanks Patriot. So your saying the headers are equal to 1-2 lbs of boost? about how much HP is that?

You will lose about 1-2 lbs of boost because the headers will flow better. Boost is just a measure of restriction. You’ll make more power with less boost with same size pulley and headers.

You’re not gonna loss power it’s just gonna be less restrictive. Boost is only a measure of restriction.

Detoxx is correct. You're still forcing the same volume of air into the motor. Headers just make it easier for it to leave.

Headers have a scavenging affect which draw burnt exhaust gases to flow out of the cylinder more efficiently . This allows the intake cycle to fill with more fresh air/fuel on the intake cycle. More air/fuel = more power. As mentioned above, boost is a measure of restriction. Improved exhaust flow will help reduce some of that restriction and increase power.
