Default 2008 LS3 Rear Mount Turbo Build

First Corvette along with my first turbo'd car. Found the car on here down in Irvine, CA. 2008 z51 with 52k miles, BTR valve springs and retainers, custom cam, ARP head studs, Fast 102 intake manifold were the mods on it when I purchased it. Owned the car for about 2 months before the tear down begun.

Build List:
  • All custom fab work done by Fuse Fabrication out of Kent, WA
  • Borg Warner S475 T4 Flange Turbo
  • Racetronix Dual 510LPH Pumps
  • Holley Fuel Rails
  • Fuel Lab FPR
  • FIC 1200cc Injectors
  • McLeod Twin Disc
  • Lots of cursing and hating life

4/21/19 Update on the car: Getting remote tuned by Houston House of Power, on the dyno car is cutting fuel at 4k RPM and going into limp mode. Drove it back to my buddies shop and did a pull on the street and it went past 4K RPM no issues.
Threw codes P0106, P0068, P1101. Hopefully will have it dialed by Monday to get the tune finished.

Small pull in the car

How she came

Threw some 17's on her.

Parts starting to come in.

Such fun times.

10/10 wouldn't recommend this kit (Racetronix even said it wasn't meant for vettes).

If I were you, I'd just buy a drop in kit.

Custom catch can and part of the fuel system setup.

No those aren't zip ties I left on the heat wrap that melted before I remembered they were there.

Who likes pie?

Fast intake split open on the dyno

Nice build. Sorry to see yet another fast intake split apart under boost. Hopefully it didn't damage the motor or you caught it soon enough before it sent chunks through the motor. The 2 piece plastic intakes just don't like boost. Throw a stock one back on and enjoy.

Does the FAST not have burst panels?

Appreciate it brotha, thankfully caught it at idle.

What sucks is I had a stock one in my garage for like 8 months and did a clean out and sold it 2 weeks prior lol. Found one on offerup for $250 and she’s back and going.

Thanks man, I seriously can’t wait to rip this thing. My last car was an M6 ‘09 CTS-V that only
put down 615whp so this thing will be a whole different animal.

Was getting excessive blow by, did a compression test and cylinder one was hurting... Tempted to get a Thompson Motorsports Stage 3 block but you see the way my bank account setup...

All in all it could have been worse and at least I'll know everything's fresh down there until the winter rebuild.

Sorry for the super late reply I didn’t have email notifications on! That would be awesome, I’ve been doing a ton of research and have read/heard nothing but awesome reviews about you guys.

How much did this turbo kit cost you? They should sell these.

How much boost was it making to split the intake?

Unreal - something odd about that manifold splitting like that. Owner says it split at idle and engine not under boost.Comp says their manifold tested for 30 lbs of boost.Wondering if owner didn't use the correct button head bolts in the valley cover to prevent the damage to the manifold

Comp is full of it. And testing on a bench and a hot motor cycling is totally different. Typically takes a little bit of time for it to become brittle and things to stress facture from growing/shrinking.

It's hard to put a price on it I'd have to go back and look. If we redo things this winter the kit would be up for sale though!

Sorry I should have mentioned it probably split the previous day, but only 7lbs and the tuner said he's seen it happen on multiple occasions.

I ordered a Holly Hi-Ram either going to cut the hood or get a custom cover built.

My bet is this also. Between the constant expansion and contraction and the fact that they probably tested it with a new manifold on a cold bench the heat of the motor/engine bay during a pull alone could weaken it. Funny how the higher quality oem manifolds of similar shape dont have these issues for alot longer.
