Default Single turbo with ac and rear exhaust

I’ve seen many turbo kits on the c6 but just wondering if anyone’s managed to build one yet that retains the ac and connects to a rear exit exhaust system?
i want to give it a go and so far the best way I can see it happening is to use a header design like cxracing or upp have on the driver side, replicate the same design on the passenger side which hopefully allows space to run a 3.5” minimum downpipe.
here’s a very rough photoshop to give you a better idea of what I mean.

many thoughts on this design or any additional ideas?
im looking to achieve 8-900whp so hoping the 3.5” downpipe connected to the twin 3’ system will be free flowing enough.

It's veryyyyy tight in there. I would go twins with the Huron speed C5 kit.

Does their kit work as-is on c6’s or need a lot of changes?

The Huron? From what I've seen, it needs slightly more clearancing on the pass side frame rail but other than that, it fits real well.

Thanks for the answers, ideally though I’d like to keep to single as already have the vsr7875.
long story short my current setup is absolute crap and the only way to get things working properly is to redesign the whole hot side to work with this new turbo.
unfortunately I already have over Ł10k buying and installing what I have and would like to minimise the need to redo the whole cold side too.

That's the setup I've been dreaming about for years. Keeps AC and no fender/bumper exit exhaust. Subscribed!

Doubt it, but anything is possible i guess. I kept AC but did a fender exhaust. There was barely room to fit the 2.5" log manifold between the cylinder head and the frame rail. Which is where the exhaust will need to go if you are keeping AC.

Well it’s been a long time coming but the car is now in the shop having the new hot side built. The old setup that I bought from the US and had shipped over was truly shocking.
here’s the old setup

it may have worked a lot better if the wastegate was dumped and an exhaust made to come out the fender (current downpipe is 2.5”)

new hot side consists of 321 stainless steel 4-1 headers into 2.5” then into the twin scroll vsr 7875. Twin 44mm wastegates and 3.5” downpipe connecting to rear exhaust.
alternator has been flipped, a few cables extended, battery moved to the rear and power steering and coolant tanks being relocated.

just out of interest what sort of price would this hot side cost to be made in the US?

i know its a ton of extra piping and oil logistics... but im surprised rear mount twins aren't more popular....

there's a ton of room under the trunk, looks like a great place for all that gear....

Same. I know dude_man did one years ago that worked great but I haven't seen many of them otherwise

Yeah would be really interesting to see how a rear system performs with the addition length pipes

New hotside is looking good. A little close to the rear of that alternator. Hopefully it's not an issue.

The first hotside is a pretty bad design. Back pressure on that must be crazy.

thanks, it’s cost a lot of money but they certainly know what they’re doing. Fabrication is top notch.

to say the last setup drove like crap is an understatement. Car would hit a brick wall at 4K rpm and not move, it was horrible.
how that company got away with taking people money is a miracle. I ended up losing so much money buying it, getting it to fit, trying to tune etc. Near on $13k

Ouch, that definitely sucks. I looked at it when I was starting my first turbo build and decided to pass because I didn't like the design. Looks like that was a good decision.

Cracking build and love the craftsmanship on the new setup! Not heard of FTP before but their work looks good!

What intercooler are are you planning on running? Have they been able to keep the stock rad and just stand it up a bit more?

Hi Steve, we spoke on FB recently (small world! ), looks like my C6 is going turbo too, but with an LM7 truck engine, long tubes, and a rear mount turbo.

The Nigel on here did a great rear mount setup, think I might follow his example. Keep the under hood area clear, cool, and with ac too. Will probaly reuse my existing 2.5 pipe work as it seems to help keep the exhaust pressure up en route to the turbo and help it spool.

Hi Gavin, look forward to seeing it will be really interesting to see how it all goes.
like I said on Facebook my old kit has potential to work really well but would require a larger downpipe and in my opinion dump the wastegate. Then it wouldn’t suffer with the back pressure issue when turned up.
mite a shame as simply by removing ac I could achieve the above but I’m not willing to get rid of it, which resulted in a whole new hot side being made.
