Default LS2 MAF split

Hey, has anyone run into an issue with their LS2 MAF splitting in their boosted applications? I have a LPE TT setup on a built LS7 running about 8lbs. I was out doing some shakedown runs the other night and felt what seemed like a boost hose popping off. Car wouldn’t make boost but I could hear the turbos spooling just off idle and I had horrible idle issues, but no codes, smoke, oil was clear, etc.

after following every vac line i could identify, I finally found a full circumference split in the MAF just after the sensor. It almost looked like it was built in two pieces and not sealed up. I can’t figure out a free way to post pictures here otherwise I would. But has anyone had issues with this MAF under boost?

also, Assuming I’ll need to replace it, is it likely I’ll need to retune, or is it pretty much plig n play between sensors?

thanks all! I was so happy to find that split and not something more serious

I did the same with my old c6. I ended up buying a new OEM maf cuz the local autozone/Napa one wouldn’t run right. I then ordered the A&A maf girdle. No problems after.

That’s awesome news thanks! I had no idea that part existed, but it speaks to how common the issue is I guess. Ordered a new MAF and girdle, hope to get them in by the weekend

It's common with that style MAF. A&A has a MAF girdle or you can switch to a card style MAF, or you can go speed density tune instead.

It must be super common, at least with this car. I was taking the old MAF off last night and noticed it had the newer part number compared to what was on the build sheet from the prior owner. Apparently it'll be on it's 3rd MAF (at least) in about 3k miles. I'm thinking the girdle is a good investment here. If it fails again i'll need to look into a good SD tuner in my area.

Alrighty, update time. I got the new MAF but still waiting on the girdle. There’s apparently a shipping whirlpool near Portland where my package has gone to die.

In the meantime, I figure I’d throw the new MAF on and take advantage of the beautiful weather. I spent 30 minutes (I’m slow and out of practice) swapping out the old unit for the new. I am using the same part number and spoke with LPE who said I would not need to recalibrate. However, after the install, the vac leak seems fixed but the car won’t idle and now it is throwing a CEL. Do I need to reset the ecu or something g, or did I possibly get a bad MAF? I did not disconnect the battery before the swap.

I of course can’t find my scan tool, so I don’t know exactly which CEL, but I’d bet a box of donuts it’s MAF related. Did I miss an easy step along the way?

If you didn’t get the exact same MAF that was in the car when you broke you will have issue. If you had a OEM acdelco you have to put on a AC delco. You cannot use a autozone or any other brand.

good advice, thank you. Fortunately I did go with the exact same AC delco part. The only difference is they seem to have rotated the small protrusion on the downstream part of the housing, otherwise identical.

i did reset the ecu this morning, it cleared the CEL, cars idles clean and pulled through first two gears like it should. Hoping to take a prolonged drive tonight, but I think I’m back in business. Thanks all for the advice!
