As for eating metal or into the motor, it would have to make it through the intercooler, which has fairly small passages, so the risk is low, but he should be taking all the pipes off and cleaning out and checking for sure.
The filter is in good shape and clean, minus the impeller pieces laying in it. No, I have never run the car without the filter. There is no visible damage to the the throttle body. The blower discharge pipe has some small debris in it, but the intercooler looks to be ok. Definitely taking it apart to inspect everything and clean.

I’m going to supercharge very soon. Is this common? I am going with ecs. That looks serious.

Well then it isn't normal, but a new wheel/volute/rebuild at paxton shouldn't be too bad. Those parts like others said are not too much.

The impeller at Jon Bond is $574.99. Little different than $100.

$350 for the Volute. And the bearing kit is about $700. So probably looking at around $1500 or so for parts alone.

Those prices seem way way way off. Are you going off random 3rd party sites or vortech? Vortech typically needs the unit in hand, then will quote a repair. I've had a case replaced, all new bearings/internals and it was less than $700 with return shipping.

Those are the prices at Jon Bond Performance that someone earlier recommended. I am personally sending mine to Vortech.

That is the best choice IMO, which is why we send anyone with an issue directly to them. Best of luck with the rebuild, sorry this happened to you.

That's reasonable. Was that with a new impeller too?

I was a little off on the impeller. lol. But a stock replacement is $400. The billet one is $575.

I bought my D1SC that was mangled up for $500. I put $500 into it with bearings and such. So i think I made out ok. These things are stupid simple to work on. A Torch and a press go a long way.

That’s what I’m thinking. I’d contact ECS and see what they’ll do for you. How hard were you spinning it?

This is a bummer. I would definitely check the pipes and intercooler out good.
