I might be wrong but lighter power plug has 12V supply all the time even when engine is shut (again I might be wrong).
So I would connect cupholder insert to a head unit 12V supply to be sure it will be off when car is shut.

Looks like new electric supplies already at the post office so in few days I will be ready to make new cupholder inserts!

It is a protective film to keep it black and shiny :-) just remove it

Definitely they are not so bright, just camera settings do its stuff.
