Default Halltech's Tune

I ordered and installed the Halltech’s LS2edit programming package. It was a reasonably easy install. This programming is done by uploading your car’s stock ECM file, sending it to Jim at Halltech were he downloads his custom tune on to your stock file. Jim then sends the custom tune back to you through Email and you simply download it back into your car through the OBDII. With this program you can keep your stock and custom file on your home PC; later you can go in and make changes on your own, even put it back to stock if you want.

I was going to go with a handheld tuner. But I’m glad I looked into to Halltech LS2edit first. Jim looks for the stoichiometric value of California fuel. Here in CA the gasoline is 5.7% Ethanol. The Cat Overtemp Protection Circuit is also handled in Jim’s tune. I’m just amazed at the restrictions GM puts on the computer. The LS2edit made a substantial difference in the performance. No more hesitation at launch and it hits the gears like it should. We are being conservative on the TM for now though, only reduced it by about 40%. If you’re looking for an excellent tune from an experienced tuner, I recommend talking to Jim at Halltech.

Thanks for the feedback. Jim has always been a great guy to work with. He knows his stuff. I'm waiting for the LS7 edit.... hopefully soon?

What means do you use to suck it out? Im assuming a dongle that goes to some kind of handheld unit?

It is not a hand-held unit. It is done through your laptop or PC. You load the USB drivers for the cable that is provided with the package on to your laptop/PC. You then load the LS2edit program on to laptop/PC. The cable provides the link between your car (OBDII) and your laptop (USB) so you can upload your ECM (and TCM) to your PC. This (stock) file(s) is then emailed to Jim.

basically he bought LS2edit, but is having a tuner modify the file for him. This is not a bad idea, imho. It gets you a "pro" tune, but leaves you free to make changes yourself in the future (if you know what you're doing). Be nice to set the rev limiter to 1500rpm for your teenage son, etc.

I copy programming utility so to speak. Wishful thinking I guess.

I did something similar with HP Tuners when I had my C5. I had my own copy and had a tuner modify files for me and was able to make a few minor changes myself as needed.

That sounds like a sweet deal. How is the Tec support? I like it that you can install the stock tune befor you tack it in for service. What would be nice is if we could have a Valet mode so some service tech woun't take it for a joy ride. I bitch about the extra miles on my ride when I leave it with them.

LS2 Edit is not ready for the 06s. Once again, GM has switched to a new ECM.

Halltech Email LS2Edit Programming Package details:

The complete Personal Software Tuning package from Halltech including the single license LS2Edit CD, LS2 Programming Cable, and Halltech's complete Corvette Challenge Program for your C6. You order from Halltech, we send you the complete single license LS2Edit Package from Carputing LLC. You will need a laptop or PC with 200 MHz or greater and a USB port for the LS2Edit cable. Once you upload your stock program from your Onboard Diagnostics Port, you simply email it to Halltech. WE DO THE TUNING FOR YOU. After we program the LS2Edit file we email it back the same day. You can then download the new program to your car. That's it! This is the exact program used by two of our customers who have run 118 and 117 in the 1/4, with just our C6 Stinger CAI, and our LS2Edit program. You own the stock file, so anytime you wish to return it to stock, you don't need us. 1 free upgrade comes with our package. Subsequent updates or changes are $100 each. Shipping not included in this pricing.

Sounds like a good way to get started-how much?? Also, I imagine at this stage of development there will be a few updates to the software itself coming down the road-would I be entitled to these for a certain amount of time?

I had Jim perform a tune on my C6 this summer, and I was thrilled with the work he did. I visited him at his house (I also live in Wisconsin) which made the process easy. We walked through each step and he helped educate me on the different aspects of the tune. I highly recommend Jim for your tuning needs.

Thank you Mike. I'm not ignoring anyone here, but Halltech is not a forum sponsor, so we are limited to non commercial responses.

We do however have many Halltech Distributors that sponsor this site, they are listed here:
