Ignition on/off

How do I turn the car ignition to "ON" and not start the car to run my tuning software?
I have a C6 coming at the end of the month with the M6 transmission. In the olden days, I simply insert key, turn to on, run tuning program, turn off ignition, wait 15 seconds, and then start the car. Doing something wrong during the tuning portion can be really ugly to the PCM so I want to be double-dog sure of the process.
Searched on "ignition" and almost went blind trying to read all of the threads. Didn't find squat!

If you take a look at one of the last 3 videos in the link below, you'll see what your car's start button will look like when you open the door (green circle illuminated). I then push the bottom of the button to put the car in "ACC" (Accessory Mode).

That may be all you need to get your tuning software to start communicating with the car. However, the car will time-out after a few minutes and shut down - not a good thing if you're in the middle of a software load.
If you push and hold the bottom of the button for about 10 seconds, it will put the ignition into an "On" mode, and that is generally what you should do before uploading a software change to your PCM.
Additionally, with the manual transmission, you can put the car in neutral, and with the clutch out, push the green circle you normally use to start the car. The car is not supposed to start unless the clutch is pushed in, but I've heard of a case in a showroom where somebody pushed that button with the car in gear and the clutch pedal up, and apparently the starter engaged and drove the car through the window. So, make sure you're in neutral if you try that technique.
Also, when using my Predator, the manual makes a strong recommendation to pull the OnStar (if you have it) and the radio fuses. This is to keep some spurious traffic from being sent over the car's computer network bus while your tuning software is communicating with the PCM. The fuses are under the sloping foot rest area on the floor of the passenger seat.
Good luck, and you're gonna love the C6!!!

Say goodbye to CAGs in short order!
Thanks,

I think you've got it!!!
Except.......it's not a "split" switch. it's just one large rocker switch with the green circle on the top and 2 lights on the bottom.
Butt......yes, hold the bottom down for about 10 seconds and you'll get the ignition on and it shouldn't "time-out" on you during your upload to the PCM. Pushing the bottom of the button again will turn ignition off.
