Default LS7 Tuning

Here's my question. I have a cam/tune installed on my C6 Z06, using HP Tuners. I did not do the work myself, so I do not have the HP Tuner software.

I am interested in dialing up my idling RPM. Right now, the shop set it up to where it idles at around 850 RPM. They told me that if I wanted it to cam harder (i.e., have more of a "choppy" idle) the Z would have to idle as low as they can possibly take it. Hence the lower idling RPM of 850.

The guys said that they normally tune this particular LS7 cam to idle at around 975 RPM. So, just out of curiousity, I would like to reset the idling RPMs to 975, just to see how different the Z sounds. He said he could send me the tune that contains the new higher idling RPM, and that I would have to purchase HP Tuners so that I can download the new file to the Z. He also sent me the tune that is currently on the Z, so that if need be, I can simply put the tune back on the Z, if I don't like the new higher idling RPM.

What I am wondering is, if I puchase the HP Tuner software, am I able to just literally only adjust the idling RPM to my desired setting and nothing else? Will this affect the rest of the tune (A/F ratio...)? Can I make just that one change without changing anything else? Also, can I change the idling RPM from 975 back to 850 without any harm done to the Z?

Someone chime in, since I got the work done by a respectable shop some 6 hours away from where I live. If I live there, I could simply take the Z over to them so that they could make the changes, but I do not have the convenience of doing that!!!!

thanks,

TTU,

Once you purchase HPTuners for your vehicle, you can tune whatever you like (on your car), there are no restrictions. As for adjusting your idle, this is a table of RPM vs Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) for both Park/Neutral and In Gear. You can alter any of these values without affecting your AFR. Some customers don't like the "camming" of the engine/car at idle so the idle RPM is raised to avoid this. Of course this is very dependent on how radical the cam is, a very radical cam may not be able idle at 800RPM.

If you care to buy HPT, give it a try. Hope this helps.

And other tuners such as us at RevXtreme offer low cost tunes emailed to you to use with your HPT. ($99 in our case)
